  IMPORTANT UPDATE: I got a bit excited looking at the tech side of this story that I missed an important aspect of the Tesup Atlas turbine. While there tech sounds very promising, reports from customers aren't so positive. Please do your own research before purchasing any of these models :)

  I installed small wind in Tasmania Australia over 20 years in remote area off grid battery charging stations. Solar power absolutely is a better way of generating, mainly due to the fact that the turbine has moving parts and require periodic maintenance. Solar on average made more the 10 times more actual power and is about 10 times more cost efficient.

  Tried building and designing wind gens for several years. But my location seldom gets winds over 5mph. A monster system might make 50 watts. So i went solar panels and 5 100w solar panels keep my Ham radios, phones, and other things charged and help heat my bedroom in the winter.

  Once, way back (about 30 years ago), when wandering through an old neighbourhood of a suburb on the outskirts of Osaka, Japan, I came across an old house buried down a back street, whose owner had attached small propellad dynamos he'd picked up 2nd-hand somewhere, to the roof ridge-line of his old house. The little blades of each whirred constantly, even in gentle breezes, but made no sound. He was very satisfied with his set-up, saying his set-up generated all the electricity he needed.

  The last 20 years I have seen so many ‘promising’ ideas about this kind of vertical turbines but it never turnout into a profitable success

  wind will NEVER overtake solar. &nbsp;I&apos;ve lived in a number of places around the country, none of them would be suitable for wind generation, but the sun shines in all of them

  There are times when wind is not available &amp; this is where having more than one option of energy production, multiple in fact. You would also need good storage for the power produced

  I remember a TV show years ago that talked about a wind turbine (Kyle xy) and as soon as they started talking about a small wind turbine that could produce a lot of energy the show was done.

  The Atlas will experience torque as do traditional prop designs, because it is affixed at its base while wind presses along its vertical length and more so with elevation. Thus, it may still exhibit lateral sway, humming, and vibrations though less than a traditional prop.
