On animals having languages. About 20 years ago, I was on extended sick leave, of which I spent a lot of time on my patio, along with several bird feeders. I gradually realised that whenever I appeared I heard the same call, that I never noticed at any other time. The birds had grown used to me, and were happy to come within a couple of feet of me, and a few would even take food out of my hand. My next-door but one neighbour had about a dozen rescue cats. These were all of different temperaments and characters. One was perpetually hunting, one was just totally laid back, some might be opportunistic hunters. I realised that the birds had different calls to alert when different cats appeared. This "language" was shared by all of the species. A relatively large blackbird obviously didn't sound like a tweety blue tit, but the rise and fall of the pitch and the cadence was the same and I could reliably predict which of the cats was about to appear. If it was the ginger, none of the birds would fly away. If the call for the hunter went up, they would all take to the trees.

By this time, I had realised that the call I heard when I first went onto the patio was their "name" for me.

As the seasons turned, some migratory bullfinches moved through the area. They didn't know the language at all. It's not like the "hunter!" cry was a universal language for a dangerous cat. They would fly off when the ginger call went up, and not seem to understand why none of the other birds reacted. Sometimes, when an opportunistic hunter's call went up, which put the birds on alert, but not enough to fly off, a bullfinch might have a narrow escape. Before long, the bullfinches learned to understand the local language, but they really struggled to speak it. The bullfinch call is quite different from that of the other birds in the garden, so it may be that they didn't have the vocal dexterity. I likened them to Brits abroad, whose "Spanish" is talking English slowly and loudly.

This language fascinated me. It didn't appear to be just simple nouns for specific animals. Sometimes, they'd indicate that the hunter was around, but there was a bit on the end which seemed to indicate that it didn't seem to be hunting. They would all be on alert, but not fly away. There was another cat which looked like the hunter, and sometimes the hunter call would go up, and it seemed like they could correct a misidentification and they'd all fly back down.

Neil: 'Those alien hips don't lie.' I never thought I’d hear Neil deGrasse Tyson quote Shakira while analyzing an extraterrestrial X-ray, but here we are.

I've been a dedicated amateur astronomer for over 35 years , In the winter of 2004 I watched a gigantic machine , a craft , Fly
across the sky in front of me. It was honestly and truly the size of 4 to 5 entire neighborhoods , It was in the size range of being
around 1 mile long x 1/2 mile wide ''thick''. Imagine a brick that large. It wasn't far away. I got a really good look at it. The sky
was pristine , No obstructions , a direct view. It was absolutely silent , It had no lights that I could see , It moved so unlike anything
that moves through air , through the sky. It traveled in the most perfect , straight , flat , level line as if it was on rails , Like on tracks
Its motion looked effortless. When I raised my binoculars to it , I saw no features , It just looked like one , solid , flat piece.
About 15 to 20 seconds after it went away out of my sight , 2 military jets came roaring across the sky , I feel they were either
chasing after it , Or looking for it. I've spent 22 years since looking for an explanation. Whatever that was that I saw , I believe
that we absolutely could not make a machine that large that flies fast and silently . It was nothing like anything that we do make.
