Correction: I realised after editing the video that a brand new Scalextric set in 1975 actually cost closer to £12. A fiver would usually only get you two cars or a couple of track expansions. Or you could have gone for one of the knock-off ones for £5. The only way you were getting an official full kit for £5 back then was if you picked it up second-hand. Sorry everyone for that mix-up, and thank you for the great support on my videos always.

My mum tells me that in 1978, we had very little money left just before Christmas payday and she found £5 on the pavement. She said it was one of the happiest moments of her life as she knew she was gonna be able to buy us some nice things before she got paid and put food on the table.

In 1975 i had been in the armed forces for 4 years out of my 16 years which i served and was posted to Malta for a 3 year tour where i meet my wife and 50 years later we are still together at the old age of 72.

In 1975 I paid £11 a week rent and paying it was a struggle. We have to remember that £5 in 1975 is the equivalent of approx £60 now.
