  This honestly sounds a lot like modern airborne units. The goal being less about the parachuting as it is learning how to rapid deploy units on a large scale, so that other forces can come in to reenforce an established area.

  The horse is the superior personal off-road vehicle, it can climb and leap, it can live off the land, and you can cuddle with it! If you do that with a motorcycle someone will think you’re a halfwit, but with a horse, it’s fine.

  My great grandad was a cavalryman in the Royal Irish hussars during WW1, apparently he saw mounted combat as late as 1917. He survived the whole war from 1914-18

  This was a genuinely immersive deep dive into the realities of cavalry warfare during WWI — well-researched, grounded, and respectfully presented. The reenactments, primary sources, and small historical details like the cavalry training manual added so much depth.

  The cavalry of the prewar regular army were the finest in the world; a hybrid of shock unit and mounted infantryman with the same level of marksmanship training as the infantry. There were multiple successful cavalry engagements in 1914 before the &quot;Race to the Sea&quot; ensured trench warfare set in - despite what popular media may have one believe.

  Cavalry continued to be used by almost all sides in World War Two especially by the Germans and Soviets. By the way I am the person who won your giveaway a few months ago, thank you for the great content!

  To a person uninformed about the first World War, seeing cavalrymen in seemingly modern military wear whilst holding lances would seem very surreal.
