I think the problem on the Pokemon Blue might be a bad trace on an address line. I think it's reading from the wrong memory address when trying to load the Pokemon sprites.

I got a fake leaf green from a store called game exchange once. When I came back and mentioned it, the employee didn’t believe me. I think he thought I was trying to return a fake after getting a genuine copy. I treat it as a life lesson to scrutinize every used game I get no matter where it’s from, especially from Amazon.
