  My old boss! While teching for him in &apos;97, he yelled at me to bring him a Chesterfield, mid dueling-solos at a clinic with Alan White. I handed him one and lit it in his mouth without missing a beat. For the effort, I received the most applause the Denver drumming community has ever given a tech. Working for him was down right transcendent for a teenage drummer. I can vouch first hand that he wasn&apos;t the villain he&apos;s so often portrayed in media. Well done on the Sunshine video drumeo! Hopefully we can get Kofi on here someday.

  Disraeli Gears - One of my first albums purchased in my youth. Listened to it again yesterday. Love the drumming on it, still fresh after 60 years. Why didn&apos;t anyone else sound like that? Quote from another Ginger documentary: &quot;He would walk into an empty pub and start a fight&quot;. I believe it.

  Anyone who hasn&apos;t seen the Cream reunion concert should do so immediately! &nbsp;His foot work on the hi hat is mesmerizing! And his drums sound amazing.

  Disraeli Gears was the first LP I ever bought - it was the summer of 1967 and Sunshine of Your Love was the dominant song on AM radio during what came to known as the summer of love. I think I drove my parents crazy that year playing it and led Zepelin 1 on their console stereo over and over.

  When I was 9 years old I said to my older brother, &quot;So, you&apos;ll be 13 on your birthday, is there anything you want?&quot;, Replied, &quot;Yes, I would like two record albums, Are You Experienced by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and, Disreali Gears by Cream&quot; so I went to the record store downtown Ann Arbor on a winter night and the clerk asked me what I wanted, I repeated the order verbatim, and the clerk looked shocked that a 9 year old kid even knew of these new albums, which were radical for 1966. &nbsp;But, the track that really sold me on Ginger Baker was &quot;Toad&quot; on Wheels of Fire, which as about a 15 minute drum solo. &nbsp;Being so young, when I first heard Toad, I kept asking myself, &quot;Why would anyone want to play a 15 minute drum solo?&quot; then after 2-3 listens I figured out that as a percussionist, Ginger Baker was expressing himself. &nbsp;The other great drummer was Mitch Mitchell particularly on a track &quot;Third Stone from the Sun&quot; wherein the percussion is undoubtedly jazz drumming.

  Thanks for a superb appreciation of this famous song and its famous drummer. The video ends well. A lot of people have a pretty superficial take of Ginger, even among drummers. Defining the character of a person by a couple of worst moments, an odd appearance (for some people), and a direct, opinionated (but thoughtful) manner with pretentious people is an easy but usually unfair business. The guy had a varied, creative, and remarkable career, did a lot of sweet things for young musicians and people who needed help, and, mainly, just wanted to have some peace to work out his own stuff. There was clearly a lot to him, and it is a shame how often he gets treated as a punchline, rather than a complicated (and sometimes difficult - as many of us are) person who contributed a great deal to modern music.

  great to see mr baker get some coverage. he was a tricky character but cream were an awesome band and alongside hendrix paved the way for zep, deep purple and sabbath.
