  We got back from Buxton 2 months ago, the house next to us was partially in the ocean with props holding it up

  What a terrible thing to watch happen. Yrs ago the water was about 200feet or more out. Here in The East Coast of England UK there have been thirty houses that gradually had tobe demolished due to errosion taking the high bank they were built on. One man had his house moved back from the edge sixty feet. It's still safe from the sea

  The Banks are a very dynamic place. Hurts to see the destruction, but there's little people can do except try and move them before it happens. An expensive endeavor.

  People out here make assumption about the groin (that was the reason they had to move the lighthouse) and dismiss island migration, rising seas, bigger storms, higher tides, global warming, and climate change. Oh, if we build back the groin and replenish the beach that will fix it. Not likely if you ask people who study it for a living.

  I really, truly understand the allure of living close to the sea. These houses were mostly built a responsible distance from the water. That said, there is no way to save the remaining houses on fragile sites like this one. Due to climate change, the sea level is rising, and it will continue to rise for generations. Houses that seem completely invulnerable in 2026 will be gone by 2100. People need to prepare for and respond to that eventuality wisely. But they probably won't.
