  I will never drive through there again. Just glad I was able to enjoy the coast when I did.

  I love the Outer Banks.  I stay every fall for a couple weeks in Buxton.  Buxton is the smallest village and claims the iconic Hatteras Lighthouse as it's own.  I can no longer stay in the house I've always rented as the beach erosion has made it too dangerous.  Also, I can now no longer walk my favorite stretch of deserted beach as petroleum from a 1950's naval base has been uncovered due to erosion.  As far as Highway 12?  My wife has a t-shirt that pretty much sums it up.  The shirt says "Hatteras Island.  One road on.  One road off.  Sometimes."  I always said to myself to enjoy the OBX while I could.  Sadly, it now looks like those days are over.

  I love driving out to enjoy Pacific Coast 1 for 2 years while my daughter was a student at Pepperdine University.. I witnessed many mud slides with Mansions on that coast. And our favorite place to eat was the Charter House where the movie stars love to eat over looking the ocean.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf0kR79U6KU&amp;t=205">3:25</a> - Beach is cleaner because you don&apos;t have to worry about bacteria count. LOL. The causes of the bacteria warnings at beaches are due to rain events that cause the wastewater treatment plant to overflow, and unprocessed sewage overflows into the body of water that it discharges into. This happens everywhere there is a WWTP, a rain event, and currents that push the discharge toward the beach. <br>I love how all of these coastal communities blame climate change when it is their own activities that are causing the problems. When the storms such as 1962 dump a 5-foot layer of sand across the island it is how the islands were formed in the first place. Then, they remove all of that sand and later wonder where the sand all went!!! Insanity and denial.

  Said 30 years ago, one day the expanded ferry system will be how you access that chain of islands. Commence to building ferry boats and docks, if you want long term access.

  Ocean levels are not raising! Shoreline beaches are always changing and will continue changing.
