  General George Thomas is one of the unsung heroes of the Civil War. A native Virginian, he never considered fighting against the Union. After the battle of Franklin he hunkered down in Nashville, preparing a counterattack. He took his time with meticulous preparation before attacking Hood&apos;s entrenched army on the heights above Nashville. When his army finally moved out, in the midst of an ice storm, Thomas&apos;s army shattered the Confederate left, and the following day completely routed the Confederate army. Union cavalry carried out one of the few effective pursuits of the war, ending Hood&apos;s army as an effective fighting force.

  This is one of the best civil war videos it has been my pleasure to watch. The graphics describe the campaign in clear and precise terms, the narration is also delivered without hyperbole and the reenactment scenes are delightful to watch. Very well done!!

  General Thomas was the Union&apos;s best general in disguise, in my opinion. He was underrated due to the anti-Southern bigotry of many in the Union administration. He was a great strategist and logistian like Grant and Sherman was, but, he was a superior tactician to either. Even the greatest generals have flaws, but Thomas was as close to flawless as one could get.

  My ancestor was a Sergeant in the 20th Ohio artillery and was in the close quarters fighting around the Carter House which I visited this year. I highly recommend visiting this battlefield. Thanks for making this video!

  A friend of mine was the official historian of the Army of Tennessee and collected the last letters confederate soldiers wrote home before this battle. &nbsp;Many are buried at Carton Mansion and on the eve of the anniversary he goes and reads them aloud at each persons grave. &nbsp;The real letters are in a collection in the Franklin library now.
