If you’re over 60, have you found it easier to make close friends in Thailand or back home?
What’s your experience?

You don't need new friends, you just need peace.

As a near 60 year old that has been single all my life and with only a few distant friends, this doesn’t bother me.

At 62 I have no real close friends as such now at home so couldn't be any worse ...😁 All the best from what was the UK.

I'm living in Pratumnak now. You made me think of something I learned in Spanish...........

No hay amigos, solo hay momentos de amistad.

There are no friends, just moments of friendship.

My genuine close friends are in the US. They are friends from college 50 years ago and we see each other once every year. I will see them in a couple of weeks. I have one close friend in Bangkok. We see each other every couple of weeks and when we are together we talk and talk and can broach difficult topics and remain friends. If I was in trouble I could call him. I have a dozen expat friends in a group I join weekly for the past 5-6 years. Then, of course, I have my Thai wife who is my closest friend and the person I turn to first every day. We have each other’s back and have lots of fun. 😊

I moved to Thailand over 9 years ago. I’m 70 now. Real close friends whom one can rely on develop either through a shared hardship or over a long period of time. And both require maintenance. If retiring, you will share none of the prerequisites for true friendships. But you can gather, have a party, invite all your neighbors Thai and farang. Be approachable and amicable and over time, maybe.

Close friends are made when you help each other out. People today are afraid to ask for help

Close friends or not, the fact is everybody is involved in their own lives and business. If you have some people you can regularly share some good times with, that is all that counts.
