It would be ironic if a generational ship is passed after a few decades by a new ship with propulsion that’s hundreds of times faster.

From looking at birds and saying 'we can do that', to looking at distant stars and saying the exact same thing. Our stubborn refusal to accept limits is easily humanity's greatest trait. Beautiful video!

Later calculations showed that a warp bubble could be powered by the power of a star of a similar size to our sun. Still pretty far off but it doesn't take the mass of the universe

We can't reliably make a carbon nanotube longer than about 15cm, but a company is going to make several million that are thousands of meters long and they're going to start doing so in 4 years?

The bigger question I have about the laser method is, how do you stop the craft? Decelerating from 10% the speed of light would take quite a lot of energy, too.

Considering CERN has successfully created and stored anti-matter, I don't think anti-matter is off the table for powering ships in the future.
It could bridge the gap to developing warp drives, y'know since sometimes we just have to "throw more power" at things to break critical thresholds inherent to material reality.

12:17 Contemporary designs for nuclear thermal and nuclear electric rockets are typically fission powered, not fusion powered. The two processes are quite different.

When I watch videos on this subject. It reminds me of that scene in dumb and dumber, where Lloyd asks Mary what are the chances of us ending up together. Lloyd's response to her answer is about the same as humans response to the odds of this ever becoming a reality.

I can remember reading something by Arthur C Clarke about his ideas for a space elevator. This was decades ago. He was a real visionary.

It’s one thing to reach a speed of 0.1C, but if you do that travelling somewhere, you will want to slow down as well. That could present a few issues as well.
