Fantastic conversation thank you all. Mediterranean diet, no incense, exercise, muscle mass, no scented stuff in the home like scented candles, diffusers, cut down on alcohol (maybe one glass of red wine occasionally.

My husband has had Parkinson's and Lewy body dementia since he was in his 30’s. The physicians stated this started long before his first symptoms appeared. They feel his exposure to agricultural chemicals may have contributed to his disease. He grew up and worked on farms in Pennsylvania. No one in his family had these medical problems. He is now at 65 ,in the later stages of his disease and I wish we had known more about how diet etc. affected your brain years ago. I am a nurse and when we married he was not used to eating salads or the Mediterranean diet but changed as my Italian mother always cooked this way . I grew up eating that way and rarely ate any junk food diet and no sweets ever. He has mostly eaten this since we married but I think it was too late as his disease had already started but it did in my opinion keep him from progressing into stage 4-5 later. I have a severe anaphylactic reaction to eggs and egg membrane so I cannot cook egg in my house or any products with eggs as it puts off fumes that cause me to have severe reactions. My husband and son due to this rarely had any sweets, no fried foods or gods with flour coatings. Everything was baked clean or baked. We mostly had fish , chicken and some red meat with lots of salads and vegetables . We also ate fresh fruits for our deserts . My son still eats this way and had his children eat this way. I do not think my husband would have made it this long by eating fast food or high refined foods. This was an excellent topic and the doctor explained things so every one could understand how diet and chemical exposures can affect our brains and body. I worked with several Lorenzo oil patients as a nurse case manager and these used the high keto diet and it worked wonders for these patients. I do believe the keto diet does helps brain function. The other thing my husband kept drinking daily until he was hospitalized for over a month about 7 years ago and I think that was bad for his brain. I did not drink at all and would bring this up to the doctors but not one of them would tell him to stop daily drinking until the severe cognitive decline that caused his hospitalization. I have never had a problem going out and having fun without drinking. I am going to order his book now.

I have been saying for years that one day we will regret filling our homes with chemicals just to smell a certain way. So happy that people are starting to get it. Too late for some, but maybe we can save at least the young by talking about it.

I have not, through choice, owned a television for over 25 years as firstly I prefer to choose my own propaganda but more importantly it always seemed such a waste of my time when I could be reading and doing research. Fast forward into today’s obsession with smart phones and tablets with instant news and social media connections it’s hard not to be drawn into spending too much time on checking on updates. Using a timer seems a sensible idea to limit interaction. <br>Thank you for the really interesting, informative and inspiring discussion with Austin, I found it most reassuring that there are many simple ways to improve our brain health. I have always eaten a Mediterranean diet, drink two cups of coffee in the morning, limit alcohol to a couple of beers and walk at least 8000 steps a day. Though I really must do more to improve muscle tone with weight training and will now use candles only as suggested. Thanks Clare for another great video.

I’ve been telling people this for ages; I’m asthmatic and care for young children. Don’t use scented stuff!

This is great info! Thanks! I cut down on sugar two years ago and the shape of my body actually changed (in a good way!) Sugar is terrible!

Strangely once I hit menopause I found any sort of perfume in the house or on me very overpowering and even the scent of stargazer Lillie’s leaves me feeling like I’m choking. We once stayed in an AirBnB and I had to move to a different bedroom because there was a scent boost stuff on the sheets in the main bedroom.

My body had told me that scented candles, air fresheners and intense are bad for me..I don’t feel well with it. We need to listen to our bodies.

I think it was Dr Rhonda who talks about leg exercise/leg strength improving brain health. Possibly because our calves are like two heart pumps that help oxygenated blood reach the brain.
