I would be interested to see examples where a director used this shot but it wasn’t effective.

This is an important video because in the old days static shots were used most of the time for technological and cost reasons. The fact that we can do more with the camera today, doesn’t mean that we always should.

I have made a short movie (almost entirely) like this and it won two awards on independent festivals for best cinematography. I suppose in the era when everything happens so fast, especially on our screens, holding the camera still is something different, especially when the purpose suits the story

I’ve really liked that y’all are doing more blocking, framing, and composition stuff recently. Please keep it up!

When I traveled Australia and New Zealand, I used to take a lot of photographs of landscapes, cities, people, various things etc. I always try to put a lot of thoughts behind my composition, so at some point, I just figured out that the best video shots that would make the final cut would be static shots based on the photograph I just took. In a nutshell, whenever I would take a photograph that I thought would be worth editing, straight after I would also take a little video clip of the exact same scene with the same framing. Turned out they were some of my most impactful plans in the final movie indeed. A video is just a bunch of photographs after all.

This channel is high-quality! If you have time, can you make a video about first person shots, please?

Static shots can say a lot when the framing is doing the work. Great reminder that camera movement only matters when it has a reason.

David Lean and Stanley Kubrick were both masters at the locked off still shot. Like their shots were paintings. I'm planning a film now where every possible shot will be Locked off because I will be shooting it and starring in it by myself, with a cat.
