Why would you believe what a psychopath tells you about their childhood?

25 :04 narcissistic personality disorder is not on any spectrum. And they do manipulate, harm and have very dark intentions .They live in their own fantasy and reality and will gaslight their victims and use and abuse them. They have zero empathy and can fake emotions. So i totally disagree with what he said. Not all narcs are psychopaths, but all.psychopaths have NPD.

The archetypal reason for Psychopathy and what they do is actually a profound lack of empathy. They have a functioning conscience, they know exactly what they are doing, but the severe lack of empathy - seeing a person as like a cardboard cut out, is ample driving force for them to do almost any level of violence to another human. There is no real mystery or depth to their reasoning. They just simply couldn't care less about you. It makes me think back to my primary school and later secondary school where I remember seeing kids enjoying someone being beaten up. It is in kids at a young age. I remember seeing sadistic bullying and manipulation.

When I was a little girl my cousin would bite me really hard leaving teeth imprints. I was 4 years older than her and when I cried out with pain her mother would say that she is a baby and don't mean anything. My own mother would be visiting with her brother and sister in law and she didn't do anything, I was expected to play with her.

When she was growing up she terrorized her family! She actually attacked her father, but both parents would say, Oh she's a good girl, making excuses for her. We were having dinner with them and I remember there was one piece of chicken left and she reached across the table with her fork and jabbed it. If anyone would have reached for it they would have been in ER! We didn't know what to call her except that she was a mean little girl.

When we were adults I told her what I was gonna name my baby girl, if I had one. She immediately said she liked the name and would use it for her baby. I couldn't believe it because the name is special and I decided it because of a song. Thankfully I had my daughter first.

She told her husband that I left pot in their car and I was going somewhere with them and her husband told me not to leave pot in their car anymore. I was stunned because that was the first I had heard of it. And here I was, still having to be scolded for something she scapegoated me about.

She was worse as she got older and overdosed and died in her sleep the night before her son's wedding in a different state! But her reign of terror ended that night, embarrassing her parents. They deserved it!

Love how the 'traumatic childhood' explanation gets rolled out so confidently — as if trauma comes with a guaranteed abuser output. By that logic, the parents and relatives who psychopathically abused these serial killers as kids deserve the exact same sympathetic backstory, right? They were probably traumatized too. Funny how the empathy train — even from a psychologist — stops exactly where it's convenient.
Also, as someone with actual psychology training, you'd think the personality traits piece wouldn't get skipped — trauma doesn't operate in a vacuum, it interacts with things like empathy deficits and personality structure. Reducing it all to 'sad childhood' isn't just oversimplified, it's kind of unrigorous for a professional.
Meanwhile, millions of people live with severe PTSD and never lay a hand on anyone. So maybe trauma isn't the master key everyone keeps pretending it is
