  Watching this from Ukraine in 2023, impressively accurate analysis by Mr. Snyder, done 8 years ago, while even today a lot of people don't know what is going on.

  Wise man. His books on Central and Eastern Europe are brilliant, everybody interested in the region should read them. Nicely shown reasons for why Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Poland are the way they are, despite starting from similar point.

  As an American expatriate living in Ukraine in 2014, I was bewildered by the inability of western journalists to comprehend that this was not a civil war between Russian speakers and speakers of Ukrainian... that there was no serious contention between the various nationalities and that these &quot;little green men&quot; were actually Russian soldiers. This lecture is helping me process what I previously could not define. Kudos Mr. Snyder. Your speech is more relevant today as so many people would rather let known propagandists (a.k.a. liars) like Tucker Carlson do their thinking for them.
