  God I love that the parents (particularly Erin and Orla’s moms) are just as messy as the kids 😂😂 The show definitely wouldn’t have been as good if they were just normal, responsible parents lol!

  A crying religious statue.  This could be a documentary.  Growing up as a kid in Ireland, we went through the phenomenon of religious statues that moved.  Looking back now it was bonkers.  People travelled miles, stared at statues for hours to see if they would move.  Everything moves when you stare at it for long enough.  One day on my way into school, a historical statue in our town square had a sign around its neck 'Gone to Lunch'.  Makes me laugh even now.

  Derry Girls reminded me a lot of the first season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia:  Seemingly sprung up out of nowhere, no real pedigree that I'm familiar with, no "by the makers of...", full of youthful energy and chaos and yelling, and yet somehow so thoroughly polished and artful.  Both shows seem like they're guided by the sure hand of someone who knows how to do television comedy really well, and powered by the frenetic zaniness of performers who are just letting it all go.
