The movie definitely had me giggling and kicking my feet like the book did. The only thing I was wishing was better was the reveal that he was the guy in the lab bathroom because in the book he admits that he's been pining for her since then and just getting a soft smile was not it. I need the realization that not only was it him but he's known and seen her all this time, but don't get me wrong I still loved the movie it was just the one thing from the book that I felt was missing.

6:59 It's been a while since I've read the book too, but I've since it mentioned that Adam reads as autistic-coded in the book, and how happy some viewers are to see Tom Bateman/the script play that up more in the movie, so good chances are it's intentional. God the SW references they added to this movie are just too funny, like the riffs on Kylo's and Rey's themes for Adam and Olive respectively, Olive wearing her hair like Rey's buns, the bridal carry, the multiple hand touches. Chef's kiss, honestly. But the fact that the main villain is technically named after Tom Bateman himself and here he is playing the love interest...that's the part that gives me secondhand embarrassment (especially considering how Benton treats Olive). In fanfic circles it's a silly reference to make readers laugh, but the minute that sh*t enters real-life where the actual actor/husband gets involved in the project, frankly I'd be mortified. I genuinely hope that if Tom made the connection at all, he didn't take much offense to it. 😅 Also, it's nice to see someone genuinely get excited over Olive and Adam's developing moments in this film instead of overanalyzing against the book! I love seeing his first real smile as Olive finally realizes he was the one she spoke to in the bathroom. And while subtle, I do feel like we see that change in Bateman's performance as he becomes less reserved and more unconsciously comfortable around Olive, and you know what, I like that the movie doesn't make a huge deal over it. Plus the way he says, "You have no idea what I want," and the shot of him moving atop of her was craaazy. 👀 And we LOVE Anh subverting the "Liar Revealed," trope by being cool about Olive telling her the truth, knowing already that it was fake, and choosing to just let things play out because she hoped Olive and Adam might genuinely become a couple. 👏

This movie was good. I missed Holden though and didn't like that they Made Malcolm so angry and such a slacker.
