As a Muslim, I hold Let’s Talk Religion in high regard. It is disheartening to see some of my fellow Muslims criticize without first engaging with the content. Throughout the video, Filip does not question the authority of the Uthmanic Codex; rather, he presents the historical context of the Qur’an’s standardization. His remarks are consistent with the traditional Sunni narrative, and at times (though this may be a subjective impression) he appears to support it. Overall, it is a clear and informative presentation. ❤

As someone who’s fluent in Arabic, it’s very clear to me that Al-Khal’ and Al-Hafd are normal Dhikr, not Quranic Chapters. The difference is very clear to me. Al-Fatiha, Al-Falaq and Annas are also in the form of Du’a. But the difference in Nadhm (style) is very clear between these and the other two “Surahs”. The two Surahs of Ubayy are more similar to the morning and evening prayers (Adhkar Assabah wal Massa’).
Reciting Alkhal’a and Alhafd in Qunut makes sense since they’re very similar to other Qunut Du’a. Interesting video by the way. Good information.

As a Muslim, I find this one particularly interesting. I have heard about the process by which Uthman canonized the current version of the Quran, but I have never learned any details about the other versions. After the video, I then try to learn a little bit, and find it fascinating that both Ubayy Ibn Kab and Ibn Masud were also known as a respected Quran hafiz and scholar at the time of Prophet Muhammad.

I find this channel incredibly impressive. Religion is one of the most controversial topics to discuss on social media, yet this channel manages to approach it openly, respectfully, and with an objective, unbiased look at what we know about religions and their history. It shows that people from different backgrounds can still learn about religions in a thoughtful, respectful way, even when they disagree. Even if comment sections often become proselytizing or hostile, the content of the channel itself is wonderful. Great work!

6:20 You mention the standardization under Uthman (RA), but traditional sources also describe an earlier compilation under Abu Bakr RA, the first caliph. Following the Battle of Yamamah, the Qur’an was gathered into a single manuscript (suhuf) from previously scattered written materials and rigorously verified against the memorization of the Companions. This manuscript was then entrusted to Hafsa (RA), the wife of the Prophet, and later used as the primary source for the Uthmanic standardization process.

So it's generally understood that Uthman’s role was to standardize an already compiled text rather than producing a new one. Acting with the consensus (ijma) of the Companions, he unified the community upon a single written recension (the Uthmanic Mus'haf) based on the Qurayshi dialect and ordered other personal codices to be withdrawn to prevent growing disagreements in recitation as Islam spread. (as you explained, more or less)

Additionally hadith literature states that the Qur’an was revealed in multiple modes (described as the seven Ahruf) and scholarly tradition recognizes ten canonical Qira'ats. The tradition also emphasizes continuous mass transmission (tawatur) both through memorization and recitation, tracing back to the Prophet (PBUH) up to the present day through well preserved chains of transmission.

The Surah Al khal' and Surah Al Hafd is basically Dua Qunoot that we still use in Witr Prayer (the one that is done after Isha and it is wajib or compulsory)

Edit: I'm grateful for the comments and replies below but I also want to clarify that I made an error by not clarifying that I do not consider them as surah nor I was taught that they are, I however, do Strongly Believe and put my faith into the standard Quran that included Surah Al Falaq and Surah An-Naas. Since not only they have literary characteristics and massage that matches with how Quran's literal narrative works but also the The surah's which I said are Dua Qunoot do not have the same patterns as Naas and Falaq. but thank you once again for reading. and also thanks to Filip for making this video!
