Seeing this in theaters in IMAX is a life-changing experience. The best of what cinema can be.
“Because my dad promised me” breaks me every time.

Best of luck with the new channel! I was lucky enough to work on Interstellar - namely the tesseract sequences, it’s always fun to see people react to this film it was fantastic to work on and lot of good memories.

Perfect movie and you can’t change my mind. Seen 100s of reactions and still have feels and tears.

This was a good reaction to the movie. The science advisor for the movie was Dr. Kip Thorne. He worked out virtually all of the math and physics for this whole universe, from the planets around Gargantua to the time dilation on the surface of the water planet. He got a number of other physicists involved too, and they modeled the wormhole in supercomputers to render what we see in the movie. Those simulations turned out to be amazingly correct when the first direct images of a black hole were published in 2019. Dr. Thorne’s book “The Science of Interstellar” is pretty good at explaining it. He also explains how these 5th-dimensional beings can interact with us.

Great reaction guys! I love the grief you can hear in TARS' voice when he says of Romilly "I could not save him" and the broken robot saying "Please don't make me" right before it explodes. I also love that at the end Cooper goes to "rescue" Brand from spending years alone, she being the last of the "bravest humans to ever live".

I think “ They “ are the new civilisation of humanity that Brand started in the other galaxy! They never abandoned the primary objective of Brand and Coops mission which was to save humanity back on earth!!

56:40 … she figures it out because do not forget, Murph is a genius astrophysicist. As an adult she fully understands all the inner workings of time dilation. Couple that with the fact that she had never been unconvinced that the entity in her room was indeed a person trying to tell her something. The irony, of course, being that he was trying to tell himself something through Murph. When you add in that final piece of the puzzle…she was certain the message said “stay”, and it dawned on her as she thought “who else could and would have sent that particular message? And why?”

The reason why the blackhole is so real is because Nolan had Dr Kip, a noble prize winner physicist, as an advisor. He gave the VFX team real blackhole equations to model it on. It became the most accurate visual blackhole model and was used to study blackholes. It looked the same as the real one when they took a picture of a blackhole.

Also Hans Zimmer wrote the main theme music without even knowing anything about the movie and Nolan used the music as inspiration for the movie.

Having seen this in theater in 2014, i have watched this at least a dozen more times and watched countless reaction videos, and i have garnered so much more detail from each and every viewing. One fact that everyone misses is that Old Dr Brand actually told Cooper the truth while they were walking around as Cooper was touring the complex with Old Dr Brand. "We're not meant to save the World. We're meant to leave it." Yes, he still talks about Plan A and Plan B, but he did already admit man's role in the future on Earth. And yes, Cooper HAD to leave, because the connection he shared with Murph, through love, was the ONLY bridge that could communicate the information needed to solve the problem of gravity in order to save as many on Earth as possible. If he had stayed, mankind would die out.

The documentary inserts are from a PBS documentary called "Dust Bowl" 2012 - "A documentary about the 1930s drought of North American prairie farm land, and its consequences during the great depression."

Interstellar recently had the 10 year anniversary in late 2024. SO happy you reacted to this!!!! The TV show, "The Expanse" is one of the most scientifically accurate shows while this movie, "Interstellar", is the most scientifically accurate movie. If you ever delve into reacting to a TV show, I'd recommend considering this one.

This movie is based on an original concept by producer Lynda Obst and theoretical physicist Kip Thorne and is set around the year, 2067. In the event horizon/center of the black hole was a tesseract; a 3 dimensional representation of our future 5 dimensional understanding of time. If Cooper travels “up”, “down”, or “over” and “under” in the tesseract he is able to view different moments in the past and touch the items in each time to communicate with Murphy.

The Earth is so dusty because of a plant disease called "blight" that causes plants to wither and die. For example, early Earth’s potato blight in 1845.

At the time of this movie being made humans had not seen a black hole, but the Physicist team working on the movie used their math to guess what a black hole might actually look like and they used that math to make a computer generate the black hole in the movie. Many years later a scientist actually successfully got a picture of a black hole and it turned out to be accurate to the example used in this movie.

Dr. Mann kept finding ways to imagine himself of being capable of accomplishing many things and then he kept failing.
- He thought his planet would be THE next human planet and he'd be the hero of mankind.
- He thought he'd stay with Cooper while he died; but then got overwhelmed with the consequences of his own actions and gave up.
- He failed at going forward with the mission because of his own hubris.
- He was a villain, yes, but I kind of get how/why he went insane. He and the other 11 astronauts left Earth 10 years before Cooper & the Endurance crew. He had been alone on his planet for 34 years by the time the Endurance crew got to him. I mean, look what happened to the world after the COVID lockdowns; people lost their minds staying home for 3 months. That was only 3 months & we humans are SO undeniably more messed up than ever before now.

Murphy yelled "Eureka!" at NASA because, like she said in the movie, is tradition. According to an astrophysicist at NASA Goddard, scientists don't typically say "Eureka!" when they make a discovery. Instead, they might say "That's weird". For example, when Corrine Rojas, a mission science operations specialist at NASA Goddard, saw a speckled rock on Mars, she said "Now Percy's cooking with gas!" instead of "Eureka!". The exclamation "Eureka!" is a Greek word that means "I have found it!". It's commonly attributed to the ancient Greek scholar Archimedes, who reportedly shouted "Eureka!" after leaping out of a bath.

Tom, Cooper’s son, had a baby while Cooper was in space, but the baby (Jesse) died early on and was buried out behind the house and later so was Grandpa. Tom had died 20 years or so before Cooper made it out of the tesseract and to Saturn. More of the scientific details are in Kip’s book, “The Science of Interstellar”.

The Endurance crew's shuttle was being pulled into the spinning black hole that they had named, "Gargantua", and they had no fuel to fly/pull away from it.

Cooper first released the robot, T.A.R.S., into the spinning black hole wanting the robot to try and gather data while traveling through the black hole. This way, if the robot gets found by someone they can try to gather the data and use it.

When Cooper's shuttle gets pulled into the spinning black hole it begins to fall apart because of the strong gravity, but because the black hole was spinning he did not get pulled apart like we would with a stationary black hole. He ejects himself from the shuttle, but quickly falls into a TESSERACT. The tesseract that the future "humans" placed in the black hole for him is a physical representation of a 4th dimension for humans of today to make sense of. The future humans that built the three dimensional bookcase in five dimensional space essentially pinpointed a specific coordinate in the universe that was important to Murphy (obviously she became the most famous figure of Earth’s exodus so they knew she was the key) and used that point to send Coop. They did not know at what point in time he was able to communicate everything of importance to her, so instead they gave him a “ladder” of time to glide through and find those points in time for himself. In this tesseract Cooper is only seeing different moments in time of his daughter's bookcase. He can go to a time when she's very young or older and try to communicate by pushing her books. At first, he doesn't realize that he needs to help her build the space stations that will eventually house the people from Earth. So, at first, he tries to communicate with her just like the 'ghost' was in the beginning of the movie and he fails to get her to make him stay. When he realizes that this is something he cannot change he realizes he can also communicate with T.A.R.S. He asks T.A.R.S. to take ALL gathered data from the black hole and the future humans and encode it into the movement of Murphy's watch's second hand. Using Morris Code T.A.R.S. is able to share the info with Murphy. The entire time Murphy is doing her work to build the space stations Cooper is in her book case working with T.A.R.S. He is still alive.

Cooper was guided through the tesseract by his love for Murphy, which was a theme of the movie, love, and is the only few forces humans can conceive across time and space. This movie is about love. Love for your children, love for your significant other, love for humanity, etc. The tesseract is an object INSIDE the black hole. It is removed from the established perception of time outside of it. The closer a planet gets to a black hole the stronger the effect of relativity will be. The moment you cross the event horizon you are removed from the established perception of time. According to Kip Thorne, Cooper had been in the tesseract for over 40 years, technically if within standard time. That is how he was able to get ALL the data about gravity to Murphy through the watch.

Had Cooper allowed Dr. Brand (Anne Hathaway) to seek out Edmund's planet in the beginning, they would’ve found humanity's new home immediately. Her love was guiding her as well, and even though, logically, Matt Damon’s planet seemed like a better bet (due to his fake data), her love was guiding her true. Doctor Brand found out that the man she loved had found a planet that humans can live on, but he had died in a landslide. This is why his beacon had stopped earlier in the movie.
