I’ve recently experienced many wonderful 2014’s. Montrose, Branaire-Ducru, Leoville Barton, Belair Monange, Lynch-Bages. Very approachable at just ten years young. I’m still sitting on 2005’s which was a spectacular vintage. But from my recent experiences they still need at least another five years of bottle age. Sitting on a bottle for ten years is a long time. But sitting on a bottle for 25-35 years is not for the faint of heart.

Man, Pat and Peter spitting some hard thuths today! And I absolutely agree. Opened a non classified 2021 Margot the other night. 13% alcohol, cool and elegant, a little green, fine tannins, lovely raspberry fruit, I much prefer drinking these kind of wines to the big oaky 14-15 proof fruit bombs!

This was great. It also disproved the myth that older is better as the MWs preferred the newer offerings (and the cheaper one as well)! Would love to see this done again with some whites, especially some old German wine.

Really enjoyed this tasting! Love both Peter and Patrick’s points around old world Bordeaux wine making and how they’re so much more in tune with making an exceptional wine that elevates the best characteristics of the vintage, rather than sticking to a recipe that’s ignorant to the qualities of the grapes harvested.

With increasing volatility in the climate, it feels like California winemakers and other new world locations have to follow suit here and take queues from their French counterparts.

IMO, it’s actually a much more authentic, interesting wine that tells the story of the vintage when they lean into the characteristics of the fruit harvested that year.

Applying the same winemaking approach exactly every vintage feels like you’re trying to mask or hide the characteristics of the vintage; rather accentuate them. I much prefer the former.

Incredibly informative and fun to watch as always! 👏

Great video. Love the channel and quality of topics. I listen to these videos on my daily commute. I sometimes have to turn up the volume quite some much because of the audio quality. If you could have everyone mic'ed up it would make for a better viewer or listener experience. Keep the videos coming. Cheers
