Starting to feel like IRA's will never be used for anything but RMD's.  Once you get a tax break, it's hard to surrender it.

My dad spent his career in local government finance- when we inherited a modest amount he pushed us to put it into a brokerage account with a money market (this was in our early 30's.) That account has been the second-best decision we made after getting into our 401(k) plans in our 20's (also at dad's urging). We are on the verge of retirement in our late 50's as a result. No regrets.

I'm very happy that I loaded up my brokerage account over the last decade of working. It's just my money, there's no rules and the capital gains are low tax, and I can do whatever I want with it, I can buy a car or buy a house.

And that is only gains that are taxed.  A lot of people get confused because they've spent so much time thinking about 401k withdrawls.

Thanks Ari, you make the complicated simple . The IRS rules are ridiculously hard to follow some times.

I really appreciate all of your videos. I try to learn something in each one. It helps with everything. The academy is great also.

Love your content, keep it up. I'm curious to know why you say a 401k brokeragelink account is a "Huge Hassle"?  I was very happy to learn my new employer had this option and I jumped right on it. Maybe the pro's and cons of this type of account is a good future video for those who have this option available.

thank you for the videos.  most of what ive researched says to hold bonds in pretax accounts, not brokerage as you suggest because of the payouts over the course of the bond.  you want those compounding on the pretax account as opposed to paying yearly taxes on the brokerage.   thoughts?

For #5 - I thought it was best to keep bonds in a 401k or Roth instead of taxable brokerage bc the bonds interest/dividends will be taxed at ordinary income rates.

Thanks Ari - this was a really good explanation. My Q would be, why convert from an IRA to a ROTH IRA vs IRA Withdrawal to a SH account? or would it be a wash? Over 59.5.
