The fact that you offered to fix the bike for free, so this guy could finally get a chance to ride it after all these years speaks volumes on what a wonderful guy you are!

This was my first bike. I bought it used in 1974. I was 15 and I washed a whole lot of dishs at Mr. Steak to buy that bike. Great to see it again Joe. Treat her well.

I'm only 12 minutes in, but that bike has some nice period correct mods. Judging by the sticker on the right side cover, that pipe may be a Mert Lawill with a Super Trapp muffler, Mikuni carburetor, K@N filter, aftermarket shocks and possibly internal engine mods, given the Poweroll sticker on the left side cover. What a neat little bike. I've always liked these years of the XL175. Like you, Joe, it's my favorite color scheme and the best lines in the series.

Another wonderful video. Again you’re doing a seller a huge favor by fixing his bike.

I had the EXACT SAME bike as a kid in about 1976 or 1977.
I rode it all through the hills and dirt roads. Fixed it a buch of times. I still have it, it's at my mom's house.
You've inspired me to try and get it running again. It would be something to have my Grandson ride it!
I loved seeing you ride it. What really got me was the view over the handle bars. Seeing the guages was AWSOME, took me WAY back.
THANKS

Aftermarket intake, carb, air cleaner, high compression piston, supertrapp exhaust... Someone loved this bike once.

These 70’s Honda thumpers were great bikes — brilliantly simple engineering, great looking, and fun to ride. The motors were bulletproof. I restored a 1974 Honda 250 and it was a labor of love. Surprised you didn’t snatch it up for $800.

My first bike was a 1975 XL-175. I had a lot of problems with battery charging, to where the battery would get so low it would kill the engine when your brake light came on. It stalled on me at a red light in front of a Yamaha shop.. I'm kicking away to no avail, when a mechanic came out, pulled my side cover off and disconnected the regulator. Then said "good to go" and he ran off.. I had no idea what happened, but it cranked right up and no issues after that LOL.. I lived at the that Yamaha shop for years after that. I learned so much from that guy and I consider him to be the best mechanic I've ever met. RIP Pete!

These bikes were so amazing. XL70's,XL125 and the 175's. Super tough and light weight. This could be one of the best vintage all purpose bikes you ever worked on.
