  When washing raw wool, I start by filling the bathtub and submerging the entire fleece, letting it soak overnight. In the cold water, only the dirt and manure come loose; this water makes excellent fertilizer for the garden. Only then do I put the wool into hot water to wash out the lanolin—soap or hair shampoo works just as well for this. If I don't plan to dye the wool, I don't wash out all the lanolin; it spins better that way, and the finished knitted item ends up being somewhat water-repellent. Wool intended for dyeing needs to be thoroughly washed, though I do treat it with a lanolin spray again after the dyeing process.

  Tip. If you&apos;re stuck indoors and need to comb or card a raw fleece. Even during spinning. You can put a old bedsheet on the floor.<br>I&apos;ve been spinning a clean raw fleece and still get bits falling out.

  I&apos;m currently spinning some long wool of my own. I&apos;m really enjoying it, which is good because it&apos;s a big fleece. It makes a drapey, shiny yarn, which is lovely to knit. I think this one might be a fancy shawl.

  I do the same I wash all my raw fleece in the summer and let the sun dry it all. &nbsp;Then I store it in vacuum sealed bags in the garage waiting for me to card it 🥰

  I&apos;m doing exactly the same thing right now! &nbsp;I bought my first fleece this summer and I&apos;m trying to get him all cleaned up before winter so I can decide what to do with him while I&apos;m trapped inside lol

  I recently purchased my first three fleeces at Wisconsin Sheep &amp; Wool, and watched many of your videos before I scoured the first one! I watched this one while carding up my corriedale! can&apos;t wait to see what you make! (I&apos;m trying to get the gumption to wash the other two before winter comes as well)

  You’re making me want to go buy a fleece at my local sheep and wool festival next week even though I have never spun in my life.<br><br>Also, if you hadn’t told us, I’d have completely assumed the first fleece was the grand champion when I first saw it!
