Gliding 306 km: Slovenia, Europe (clouds stuffed with rocks!) Condor 3

Fly with me in the Condor 3 soaring simulator on a 306 km journey across Slovenia and northern Italy in Europe in a Schneider Grunau Baby sailplane. This simulator is so good that it is used by gliding clubs for flight training. Watch this 45-minute flight simulation video on your TV like a movie! It's a compact distillation of a free-flight task that took many hours. Every long soaring flight is a story, often with twists, turns and the unexpected. Although this video ends with a successful landing back at the home runway, a section of low terrain loomed as an obstacle to the low-performance Grunau on this slope-lift-only flight. The scenery in this HD cinematic video is the default Slovenia3 that comes with both versions of Condor 3. Others are available (free) from www.condor.club. Condor 3 pilots can go to https://www.condor.club/showtask/0/?i... and download the task and flight track that correspond to this video. Note: you need to be logged in to see the download links! Chapters 00:00 - Introduction/Launch 00:46 - Overview 02:19 - Pre-start/Leg 1 (a variety of slopes) 08:58 - Leg 2 (high point at spectacular mountain pass) 27:12 - Leg 3 (critical low-terrain crossing) 42:14 - Bonus: Pre-takeoff Checks 43:15 - Bonus: Circuit and Landing Flight Overview Regarding the flight in this video: The lift source is slopes all the way. Half an eye needs to be kept on an airspace ceiling at 5,500 feet near the first turnpoint. The second leg is the longest and takes us back past the home airfield to a spectacular mountain pass that straddles Italy and Austria. The last leg starts at maximum altitude but soon tests the pilot over a low section that offers little lift and some bad sink! After making it to the small ridge near the airfield, the Grunau is pushed hard across to the Lesce sports airfield for a cross-wind landing on the asphalt runway. There's plenty of commentary on flying techniques and decision-making during the whole trip. This video also features two musical interludes – commentary-free sections with background music to match the action. Enjoy! #condor3 #sailplane #soaringflying #thermals #slopesoaring #sloveniatravel
