  I live in Japan. The food we get here is just as good or better than what is available at restaurants. It is always super healthy as well. They even mostly use ingredients grown in our prefecture. We take nutrition very seriously here, and nutrition and cooking classes start in elementary &nbsp;school. Students are also required to clean their plates. Believe it or not, school lunch is actually part of 道徳 or moral education class. Wasting food and picky eating are considered to be moral failures, so students learn how to eat a wide variety of healthy foods in that context. Growing up with such education is largely what leads to healthy eating habits in adulthood.

  My great-grandfather was a member of Finnish Parliament for over 20 years. He stated that his proudest achievement in his long career in politics was the free school lunches for every child. Growing up I sometimes complained about the food, but as an adult I appreciate the fact that all children in Finland are sure to get a warm, nutritional meal every school day.

  I always complained about my school lunches in my youth here in Germany. but compared to what I have seen from US school lunches... we had 5 star meals.

  How can a restaurant sue for lost profit by school lunches? It&apos;s not like the children have the money or the time to go to a restaurant. By the time they get the lunch at a restaurant, school has already started again.
