Just some pointers. You should never go from a pipe/tube into a smaller one like that(creates a flow restriction). It is okay to go from a small to a big one(based on exhaust flow direction). If you must, then use an adapter so its more gradual. Make sure you clean all of the welding surfaces(inside as well) and not just the end cut. When welding, the contaminants on the inside can get into your weld, mostly on full penetration welds. If you are welding thick material to thin, you can heat up/wire brush the thick material before welding and it will weld together a lot easier. Using different thicknesses can cause cracking down the road on the thin material(just something to keep in mind). Additional hangers and/or a flex would help prevent this.
