The Aztec skin flaying was done to honour Xipe Totec (SHE-PAY TOH-TEK) meaning"Our Lord The Flayed One", and mirroring a seed shedding its outer husk to germinate and grow into grain, Xipe Totec was believed to feed and renew humanity and is often depicted wearing flayed yellowed human skin.
