I don't accept the narrative of natives defending their food supply, as if they wouldn't have attacked at some other location. That suggestion is contradicted in the video. Everyplace the Dutch tried to approach the shore, the natives launched canoes for war. Europeans don't have a monopoly on warfare. Nearly every known people group in history waged war against other people groups. The Enlightenment idea that "man, in his natural state" would be peaceful is just pure bs.

This is one of the best documentaries you have produced, and I have never come across a bad one. Your art and storytelling evoke powerful images. Thank you

Kiaora. I live in Tasman Bay. This was good history well told. The tribe that challenged Tasman was called the Ngati Tumata Kokori. They ceased to exist by 1800 and the oral history of these events died with them. Maori are a martial people because of necessity and are quick to respond to any perceived threat. Thank you/ Tena koe.

There is a comment that wet wool never dried in the narrative voyage around 16:40 on the video time gage. The thing is that wool, even when wet, contains body heat and does not leach heat away like cotton or other fabrics. Wet wool can actually protect you.

I live in New Zealand. We are well acquainted with the roaring forties. Below are the furious fifties and the screaming sixties. The names are not an exaggeration.

I don’t know how you do it, but the amount of effort you put into each episode is impressive and amazing. The details, the accuracy, and the art work are incredible and beyond comprehension. I enjoy watching every single video that you bring to us. Thank you, from a dedicated fan!
