The worst bit is that Majeed had bought an English football club, Croydon Athletic, solely for the purposes of laundering the corrupt money - this scandal caused the club to fold due to financial irregularities, and the club Chairman, who had nothing to do with cricket, let alone the scandal, ended up committing suicide. Desperately sad.

Im an American on the Pacific coast of the United States. I have never played Cricket before. I have never seen Cricket played irl before. I have never even heard of anyone around me ever play Cricket before. My schools have never offered Cricket as a sport. Idk why this was in my recommendation, yet Im still watching this video.

Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif will always remain as one of cricket's all time what if stories. As a pakistani myself I feel shame that these things have happened in the past and that forms of corruption and government involvement are still ever present in todays PCB. I hope that these unfortunate events never happen again to a team with such a long and rich history of cricket. Its vital that these sorts of stories are told and act as a cation for the future

The fact that this is 15 years old already is crazy. It's still something that's fresh in the memory, just because of how big of a situation this actually was.

For context, it was later revealed that Afridi gave up on the captaincy because he knew of the fixing to come and tried preventing it but he did not have any backing from the higher-ups at the PCB.

I remember a commentator crying on live when the day ended, he just couldn't bear the thought of talented youngsters like Amir & Asif being ruined to corruption.

I remember being at Amir’s first game back from suspension, a t20 at Eden park where the poor guy bowled a wide first ball and got a few ironic cheers

I remember many years ago I was at a test match between Australia and Pakistan, at Bellerive Oval. Ponting was batting and he hit a hook shot straight to a Pakistani player on the boundary, right in front of us and the Pakistani player dropped an absolute sitter and I said to my wife "He dropped that on purpose", it was so obvious, and it came out later he did indeed drop it on purpose. Pakistan has a deep history of corruption.

"...We've got Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif, Salman Butt, Wahab Riaz ... that's six, yeah? Imran Farhat ... that's seven out of 11 players."

The Sandpaper saga was hilarious for us kiwis. I worked in the airport and would ask aussies to place all sandpaper in the anything to declare bins. Most of them took it well and even they called it a disgrace.

That rather generous light rap on the knuckles of these players is evidence enough to show how serious the ICC truly is about setting a lasting example. I used to love this sport with all my heart growing up until that 2000 Azhar - Cronje scandal rocked everything. And then this sealed it. It’s hard to trust anything about the sport. That Al Jazeera documentary about match fixing didn’t help either. 😞
