ISC just released a post with some updated guidelines regarding the Reflex, you can find it easily on the website. But it kinda reenforces what the manual is already doing: encouraging extra friction during harder and faster descents. Be it a wrap with the tail end round the device, or a wrench.

With mine, i like to simply think of it as a midline attachable Zig Zag, always using a wrench, apart from ascent. Works great with the Chikane, something you'll likely already have in your setup. Having some more care and not bombing those descents.

Something else i've found is keeping it clean and lubricating the top link in the access holes.

Another thing to point out is that you get a more localized wear while using smaller diameter ropes: the same force is applied, but on a smaller surface area. It might increase the speed of wear on your device. Combining the points above, with starting off with a higher diameter rope, can also contribute to a longer lifetime.

Can't get away from physics: while you can use this device in SRT config, without any additional friction, using small rope and bombing ascents, your gonna trade that for a shorter life of the device.

Climb Safe Perry!

This has been an issue since it came out. I keep a wrench on my saddle for long descents but otherwise run it without for work positioning. The bad thing is if it's slipping now you are stuck with a wrench all the time. They definitely should have been more upfront about this than just including it in the manual, shady AF but it's still my favorite device.

This reminds me of how they handles the ISC UltraLink... not very well.

I like all the apparent advantages of the relex, but seeing so many slipping within such a short time lets me stay with my knots and a caralink, waiting for Petzl to do the job better.

It still works well for me, I’m 150lbs. Blue moon and courant kalimba rope.

I was up for one of these but seeing these issues I've swerved and gone Freexion. The bit that wears is rope.

3 months on mine running on 11.7 donaghy cougar. it started to slip, cleaned and oiled where they recommend, that fixed it for about a week then it went straight back to slipping and I weigh stuff all including gear
