After a few beers I would figure that I will not feel so good the next day, so I may as well just go big now. The Lord delivered me from 30 years of weekend binges 17 years ago. My God is mighty to save!

Your stories align very closely to my own experiences.

Incrementally drinking more, mission creep. Lying to yourself over and over, just to 'game the system' - which doesn't work. Essentially if I was honest with myself - I just liked getting pissed, so I had to stop completely, which I did, 4 years back. I had some very negative people in my life and the people/places you end up in when out late getting wasted... I changed everything, friends, hobbies, lifestyle, tidied my house, washed all clothes in my house, decorated, passed exams,, new job (had the shakes when I first started told them I had Flu of all things), paid off debt's, got back with my gf, help her and my Mother in their life struggles. he small things are the BIG things in life, nice walks, good food, good sleep, watching TV - boring stuff when drunk. I had missed so much TV/Films/Music/Video Games over the years it has taken years to catch up!

Bryn, your videos are a great reminder and positive reinforcement, I like your attitude and you will have helped many people you will never meet with these videos.

To everyone still drinking - it IS worth it to stop.

The amount of time and effort we alcoholics put into working out fantasy scenarios in which we can somehow drink and yet not behave like drunks! What we could have achieved if we’d used that energy for something creative or productive! I’m old and there’s no point fretting about the past, but how I wish I could turn the clock back, re my drinking habits. 😢

Alcohol pulls such a cruel "bait and switch” on your brain. It famously impairs your judgment so people will inevitably fail at moderation. One is too many and 12 is not enough. At a BAC of .055 peak stimulation and euphoria occur. After this "Point of Diminishing Returns," higher BACs will result in fewer positive effects. You feel more impaired, not better, but keep drinking to chase the buzz. BAC slowly rises but it is impossible to return to the Buzz Zone and you get the depressant effects of alcohol.

Over time, drinking too much gets embarrassing. That is why as people get older they find it fairly easy to cut back or quit. Humans are amazing at their ability to self regulate their behavior.

I have a binge drink problem on nights out / social occasions, usually dont drink for months but then binge. falling out with friends random fights getting into stupid situations etc. I would drink 15 - 20 pints (long sessions even coming home and drinking while watching concerts alone until 6am after the pubs close) but recently instead of drinking full strength pints i drink shandy pints. I dont care what people think if they think its a girls drink, I can drink the same ammount (I drink quickly) or more, remember the night before and also not wake up feeling absoultely horrendous, with little to no hangover. Might be tired but i recover alot quicker and still have a buzz from the shandies but not blotto and paranoid for days about what i got up to. Just my experience works for me.

Hi Bryn thanks for that i do understand everything you have said bit older than you probably a decade but start drinking in my mid thirties i know how stupid that sound and was hooked after about 2-3 years and took my about another 6-7 years before i could handle and i'm sort of allright good luck to you mate and you should be proud of yourself that you done it on your own and see what i could not see without help of modern medicine keep posting those videos they help people and i do know as i was watching them for hours(not only yours but everyone olse with the same problem)

Thanks Bryn, so much resonates. I spent years tracking the number of units I was drinking on the drinkaware app. It allowed me to delude myself I was moderating and doing something about it but the truth is that I wasn't making any progress in moderating. Even experimented with drinking lower strength drinks, shandies, bottles instead of pints etc. None of it worked for me.

I thought i could moderate but accidentally did 3/4 bottle whiskey in the other night 🤦‍♂️ poured the rest out the next morning! Felt terrible all day.. never mind, back on the sober journey again 👍
