  You are right. I am a Kenyan born and raised. The corruption, extortion and bribery in Kenya is too much. It&apos;s everywhere. I grew up hating it and hate it to date. When I moved to Europe 7 years ago and saw how things work and no one will extort me or overcharge me or try to scam me, I started despising Kenya. People in Kenya are far gone in corruption, we are even getting worse than Nigeria. I really can&apos;t stand dishonesty or scammers. We were never like that though. In the 80s and early 90s most Kenyans were decent. It started changing in the late 90s or when we turned to the millennium. People became greedy and jealous of other&apos;s successes. <br>You are also right that Kenyans don&apos;t like being criticised especially by foreigners. They join forces and come at you for that.<br>Anyway I still love Kenya but I wish people would stop robbing each other. <br>My comment will probably offend someone but who cares? Facts are facts

  I&apos;m an American who has lived in Kenya for nearly 3 years. I&apos;ve been coming back and forth since 2005, married to a Kenyan since 2007. We lived together in the USA from 2008 to 2023, then made the full move here. <br><br>What you&apos;re saying is 100% accurate. Even my Kenyan wife, after living in the USA for 16 years, is shocked by the level of corruption and dishonesty after coming back. <br><br>There are great people here for sure, but there is a LOT of corruption.

  Absolutely 💯 I live in Kenya at 65yrs. I&apos;m a retired English Teacher from Texas. He&apos;s being really kind about some of the things. Most YouTube videos talk about how cheap it is to live in Kenya and other countries in Asia. I started my journey back in 2010 and permanently relocated in 2021 at 59 yrs. Some of the cons are like the states. Example, yes if you don&apos;t know the price you will be taking advantage of the same when you buy street items that are designer and find out later it&apos;s Fake. Pro is barter like your life depends on it. Kenya streets are not organized and most are on the take because the system is on the take. We give freely and get freely not in Kenya. It&apos;s every men for himself and God for us all. Now depending on where you live in Kenya there are 3 things they are known to ask for money 💰 for and mark this down! 1. Death of family 2. Education tuition fees for self or children 3. Sick for themselves or a family member. Never ever do loans!! See he&apos;s not saying this! No police has ever ask me for money 💰 but I have seen them request it from locals. Also, request them to go to court in order to get 💰 How do I know? I have my own part-time driver and I call him to drive me from time to time. When we go, out we prepare. I sit in the back of the car, never sit in the front when he drives. I do this because both of us know he&apos;ll be stopped for money , so when they see he&apos;s driving me usually they know I&apos;m an older foreigner and they won&apos;t ask him for money in front of me. However, there have been times when they ask him to step out the car and that&apos;s when I interject and I have already taken my keys from him because they will try to take my car so they can force me to pay. When this occurs I have said fine officer this is my car and I will drive myself because I don&apos;t have an offense and I have a license, so they will usually let it go and we go on our way. &nbsp;You really have to brace yourself about the money. These people are morally corrupt and not all ,but it&apos;s so common. Also, Kenyans do it to each other and to white people which he didn&apos;t mention. There&apos;s no exemption!! The only way you will adapt is to go through and I&apos;m sorry to tell you this. However, to me it&apos;s worth it because Kenya is beautiful and many people are friendly but just keep your guard up no matter how friendly they are. With that said, I purchased a house and paid cash in a gated community and I own land so my monthly bills average $220-250.00 I Live on social security not teacher retirement because I took out my money a while 💰 because it&apos;s a rip a &nbsp;off. Now, another reason I decided on Kenya because and people don&apos;t talk about the financial investment opportunities in Kenya. Most AAs don&apos;t know what to invest in, in order to make or generator money 💰 quartly or yearly and ! they don&apos;t know interest rates. Kenya has Saacos like our credit unions in America 🇺🇲 but much better rates that pay you money. Kenya has money markets, Corporate Bonds, and T bills. The rates usually are 4-20% percent. Banks usually do the 4% other much higher. This is one of the most important reasons why I live in Kenya, so before you spend all your money on good times and living consider putting that money to work for you. No, there&apos;s never been a time where I didn&apos;t receive my money. 💰 Remember I live on Social Security and I have an emergency fund, health, etc and I still have money left over. I could never do what I&apos;m doing here in Kenya in the states. At 65yrs I&apos;m at peace 🕊️ trust me there are many trade offs, but if you can get pass the &quot;in America 🇺🇲 dream&quot; you will find your happy place in Kenya 🇰🇪. Where this young man was talking about is in surrounding areas of Nairobi, which carries high crime rates . Similarly, would be our inner cities like Dallas Texas, which is where I&apos;m from. However, I live on the island 🏝️ Mombasa in a rural area outside Mombasa. Y&apos;all please do your research and know there&apos;s no perfect place for people like us. I&apos;m extremely skeptical now when I come across folks who only have wonderful things to say about a place and are unwilling to tell us both the good and the bad, the pros and the cons. It&apos;s crazy how rare it is for someone to do that. &nbsp;Props to you. &nbsp;Keep it coming.

  For me the negatives in Africa out weigh the positives. &nbsp;Im not going anywhere that I have to stress everyday about someone trying to defraud me. &nbsp;No thank you. &nbsp;Most people dont understand how that stress builds over time. &nbsp;I learned this traveling to Ghana 5 times.

  I&apos;m a Kenyan, born and bred, who lived in the US for a chunk of time before ultimately moving back home. So I understand how difficult it can be to live in a foreign country and how important it is to get a fuller picture of a place <b>before</b> you move there.<br><br>What you say about Kenya is true. We are a dog-eat-dog society. But I have to say that it&apos;s not just foreigners who have those negative experiences. We do the same stuff to each other too. Many people are materialistic and will try to take advantage of others. Corruption is common. And it&apos;s not that we&apos;re okay with it or used to it. Many of us are frustrated but helpless to change it.<br><br>But all of this is happening in a context. In all honesty, the political climate matters a lot. If you had visited Kenya towards the end of Kibaki&apos;s second term, you would have had a very different experience. <br><br>I&apos;m not saying Kenya was perfect before, but the state of the economy definitely deteriorated dramatically under Uhuru and then under Ruto. And corruption also rose under both presidents&apos; administrations. Repression has also been rising. As a result, corruption, greed, cynicism, crime, and violence have risen.<br><br>So, what I would suggest to you is that you also encourage black folk looking to relocate to Africa to take the time to understand the history and politics of the countries they want to move to. Because this stuff will affect them. They can&apos;t live in a bubble and remain untouched by political instability, etc.
