  Tom was unhappy in his relationship with Jane, but clearly didn't care enough to ends things with her before making a move on Daria. He didn't respect Jane, and I will never understand why Daria was comfortable starting a relationship with a guy who betrayed her best friend.

  I can understand both sides of the argument.<br><br>From the audience’s perspective, I can see why people say Daria and Jane arguing over a guy would be out of character. It would feel pointless, anti-feminist, and degrading, since it falls into the tired trope of pitting women against each other over a guy. It’s a story we’ve seen too many times: a boy coming between a girl friendship.<br><br>However, I also understand the message the writers are sending. <br>At the end of the day, they’re still teenage girls. No matter how smart or mature they think they are or how mature the audience wants to believe they’re teenagers, and that comes with messy emotions Daria and Jane can’t fully escape.

  i think tom was selfish, putting his emotions between their actual friendship. jane and daria understood their dynamic which is why daria didn’t really push the envelope with tom. TOM called daria, TOM pulled up to daria, etc.

  I always felt iffy about Tom . Yes he helped Daria become more empathetic . But he almost messed up Daria and Jane’s friendship

  The thing that’s always bothered me about Tom is the way he looks down on Jane, him and his family, how she was basically a loser that wouldn’t go to college <br>I understand why Daria fell for him, the chemistry was off the charts at the beginning, but if I heard someone close to me disrespecting my best friend the way Tom did then things would’ve been over that instant

  I think one of the reasons I don&apos;t like Tom is because he was rarely portrayed as wrong, and I never saw him as an interesting or likeable character lol

  Controversial this arc was: nobody is immune to highschool drama tropes. And the fact these teenagers were able to handle aftermath in mature way speaks volumes. My biggest complaint is I wish Tom had at least some solo episodes like rest of cast to flesh him out more besides “ Jane (ex) boyfriend now Daria (ex) boyfriend. Also Tim took more responsibility in breakup 🤷🏽‍♀️

  I really liked your point about Daria only getting close to boys (or getting crushes on them) who are in proximity to Jane. &nbsp;How that&apos;s not out of character for her. &nbsp;I never thought about it that way but you&apos;re right. &nbsp; It wasn&apos;t out of character for Daria.
