WHOAH a game I can actually give advice on?? TO THIS GUY???

I've got nearly 2000 hours in barotrauma as of writing this, and what I can definitively say is this.

- Explosive Ammunition is Busted. As soon as you can get even a smidgen of that stuff, do so.
- Railguns, if you can get them on your submarine, are also insanely good. They're as seperate thing from the Coilguns and Chainguns you've had up to this point, and are basically giant missile launchers that you can put Nukes into. They're more of a late game commodity though, because they're exceedingly expensive.
- You can straight just Steal diving suits from stations if you're slick enough. The security staff don't count you as stealing anything even if its directly in your hands due to the fact that they can't See your inventory until they actually walk up to you and do a check. (Which, is a setting you can disable anyways)
- Your choice in the camel was Immaculate. It is, in my opinion, the best Tier 1 Submarine in the game hands down.
- Morphine is an amazing Cure-All in this game. It'll heal Bite Wounds, Lacerations, the works. The only downside to it is that overusing it even a little will end up giving you a Opiate Addiction, which will make you start to puke and take some damage if you're not constantly supplied with more opioids. You can cure it with Naloxone though.
- Broad Spectrum Antibiotics are your best friend when you're taking on anything involving Husk Infection. They'll temporarily make you unable to get the parasite from any Bites or Injections, and if you're already infected they can slow it down during the earlier stages. If you don't have Calyxanide, (the Husk infection cure) abuse antibiotics as much as you can. Their only downside is that they give you organ damage over time, which can be easily solved with 1 morphine injection.

Now for more Campaign Specific stuff rather than just, general tips.
- WATCH YOUR REPUTATION! If your Reputation with either the Jovian Separatists or the Europa Coalition ends up getting too low, stations controlled by those factions will become hostile or unwelcoming to you, which can mean increased prices at best, and completely losing access to those stations at worst. Once you're at that hostile reputation range, you may also start getting ambushed by Enemy Submarines at random points during your missions, so be careful and consider who you want to be friends with.
Each Faction also has different exclusive items and rewards if you get High Reputation with them. For instance, you can start purchasing Dirty Bombs at high enough Separatist Reputation, or start bringing on Much better crewmembers with good starting equipment at high Coalition Reputation.
- There's also the two minor factions, Church of The Husk and Children of the Honkmother. If you end up wanting to choose between either one, go for the Church. They have better rewards in my opinion, and ultimately end up offering more to your crew than the Children do. But, don't make either of them a priority seeing as you're not exceedingly familiar with the game. Getting far into their questlines requires a lot of knowledge on specific dialogue choices, as well as knowing What to do When. Focus on Surviving, and on not pissing off one of the big two.

Godspeed Sailor!

Oh boy. A request for advice that I can actually respond to?! From Predz?! Alright. Qualifications first. I've been playing Barotrauma for years though I've been slacking ever since Trusted Seas shut down. I played a few games with the guy who made the Neurotrauma mod, in fact. But most importantly? I served on an actual submarine. So...you know. Deep connection to the source material and all that.

I've played with mods a lot, so some of my information might get mixed up. I'll try to keep it vanilla game related, but if I'm talking about something that you're not seeing, it might be a mod thing.

Now. On to the tips.

1. DON'T LEAVE YOUR SONAR ON!
Sonar is great, but it's also really good at telling everything within the entire map exactly where you are. Use it sparingly, and especially good if you can use it in directional mode.

2. KNOW WHAT YOUR JOB DURING COMBAT IS BEFORE THE ENEMY IS AT YOUR DOOR!
In the Navy, we call this "Battle Stations". The Captain has to say those two words, and everyone on the boat knows where to go. By the way. Submarines are boats, not ships. Also the difference between a submarine and a submersible is that submersibles require launching from a support craft, meaning that any submarine in the game with drones, the drones are technically submersibles. Just random submarine facts because I felt like it.

3. BUY PERSONAL GEAR!
You were talking about how having the guy in the submarine doing sonar to navigate you through the caves is helpful. This ties into that whole not leaving the sonar on randomly bit. Buy the personal handheld sonar unit. Everyone going into the cave should have one. In fact, I'll just tell you my ideal gear for caving.
Diving suit. (Preferably one of the upgraded ones, I like the Combat version personally.)
Extra Oxygen tanks. (Do not die to the O2 meter, it's very preventable.)
Plasma Cutter. (Mining tool. Emergency backup weapon.)
Harpoon gun/other weapon. (To put holes in things at a distance that keeps them from being able to put holes in me.)
Handheld Sonar. (Navigation, obviously, but it also comes with a beacon that you can turn on that will sonar ping other sonars, to...allow aid to be rendered, or your body to be recovered. *And most importantly it literally has a built in resource scanner. I'll just show you where all the minerals in the cave are and tell you what they are.*)
Underwater Scooter. (Gotta go fast.)
Tool Belt. (The default inventory slots are not enough.)
And the rest of your slots are just for like picking up minerals, backup ammo for your gun/batteries for your electronics, or some grenades if you're feeling spicy. If you're doing a beacon activation, I'd suggest the same loadout but add in screwdriver, wrench, a few wires, a welding tool, and a fuel rod. But those can be spread out between the whole crew, not everyone needs all of that for the beacon.

Now, for more general stuff. When piloting the sub? Smaller movements on the controls are better, build up speed, and be able to change direction quickly. Ties into not having to use the sonar as much, since you aren't zooming around at Mach Jesus. Also make sure to swap it to manual control, inputting it with the Autopilot doesn't actually get you experience, which Helm experience and levels is how you get the sub to respond to your commands better. On top of that, just about everything in the game has a unique sonar signature. Whoever is navigating should be trying to learn what they all look like. They can get good enough to tell you what the enemy is before it's even in sight of the guns. Higher levels in the two repair skills result in less frequent failed repairs, and subsequently less injury. So it can be helpful to have one person do all the repairs at first, at least as much as possible, so that you have someone who can do them reliably without getting shocked 10 times.

For combat. People...well just shoot them until they stop moving and try not to get shot yourself. Combat Diving Suit helps with this. Crawlers? They're pretty slow out of the water, so spacing and dry land are your friend. Mudraptors? SHOOT! SHOOT FAST, SHOOT HARD! EVERYTHING IT TAKES! THAT THING WANTS TO EAT YOUR EYEBALLS THROUGH YOUR BUTTHOLE AND IT HAS THE MEANS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN! But seriously they are actually one of the deadliest enemies early on, so try to kill them fast. Husks, well. Take the head off. And I mean like even if it's on the floor and you think it's dead. TAKE. THE. HEAD. OFF. Melee weapons, preferably bladed, are your friend for this. And if someone gets infected? You can take it out with the right medicine, the Husk Cure or whatever it's called. But if it goes too far, it will take two doses to kill it off! So it's usually better to just have two doses on you at all times.

Okay. That's...all I can think of for now, that isn't just handing you the answers to everything. Hopefully it was all coherent enough to actually be helpful, and it would be dope as hell if you actually read the comment at all.

As a sub designer i love this stupid thing. All of my designs are super bizarre and quirky so this outrageous little shitbox is right up my alley.

So about “smart” enemies.
Most barotrauma creatures are actually have a hostility priority and if random spawned Molochs(do not confuse with mission molochs, they are more aggressive) could be avoided by simply turning off sonars and stop game chatting(voice chat on radio and typing in radio) basically makes you uninteresting target for them(exception being, if you scare their kids, moms are scary) the hammerheads crawlers and mudraptors are actually also attracted to subs tractor and engine heat, which means, when you zooming on your sub through waters, they try to get inside because of sun’s heat. Also, hammerheads tend to try to turn around and leave as soon as you try to gun them down on account of them getting damage, so they WILL try to caught you lacking at the gun and surprise attack and then run away dark souls style, prime example is golden hammerheads since they much faster and it allows them maneuver much better

Advice from a guy with a metric crap ton of hours (all recipes for making stuff in this comment are of the base materials only or at least something close to the base material)

- Throw random things into the deconstructor. it never hurts to know what can turn into another item. you can turn any clothing item into bandages or a toolbelt or fire extinguishers into bombs

- The Fabricator lies. The Fabricator states that you require certain skill levels to craft items but in reality it only dictates how fast and the quality of the item. The only items you can't make are recipe items.

- To make repairs slightly more fun and faster you can click the repair button again to play the repair mini game. (just click the button every time the line is in the green)

- explosive ammo is amazing and the explosive Coilgun ammo is cheap. made with 1 sodium (fire extinguisher or blood pack) 1 plastic (common in welding tools or plasma cutters or diving masks) 2 zinc (battery's ) 1 phosphor (light components or hydroapoxeapatate (The mineral from mudraptors) and 1 aluminum if you are making a new box

- I respect the camel but I find the 60 cargo space to be way overkill, you can only have 3 missions max assuming you kept the 2 mission max setting and have a captain with a specific talent the only way I ever see most of the cargo space used is if you manage 3 cargo missions with 15 crate maxes. I personally find the slight increased speed to be too little to matter. and the increased reactor output is more than likely spent on the large engine. The point I am trying to make is that I find the small bonus of the camel to be not enough compared to the tier 2 subs which allow tier 2 upgrades and generally have less blind spots on the guns
(this is just a personal thing if you want to rind it out in the camel the whole way through I am not the man to stop you)

- antibiotics don't make you immune to husk infection but they do steadily decrease husk infection which makes you hard to infect and also keep husk infection from killing you. on another note antibiotics do nothing in heavy husk infection stages. in late stages of husk infection you no longer breath and are pressure immune but can no longer speak in game or issue orders to AI crew. calxinade is made from 1 husk eggs, 1 calcium 1 stabilize and 1 antibiotics.

- the reactor auto mode is slow and having someone there to keep the dials in the green is usually much faster or telling AI the manage the reactor is also better then auto mode. by slow I mean the reactor auto mode does not react fast to big power spikes or drops. if the power in a ship is overloading the junction boxes will break much faster this is indicated when a junction boxes light turns red

- recycling using the fabricator is usually cheaper and faster then buying from stations

- every mission past the first area of the game has the abyss and usually abyss vents which are holes big enough for the ship to fall into. the abyss is a place where no creatures go but 3 kinds of monsters live in. these monsters are essentially bosses and they respawn every so often if you kill them. the abyss is also where certain powerful materials spawn like fulgraium and pyhsicorium. The materials spawn on hovering islands called abyss islands

- don't leave active sonar on. it leads monsters. most notably Molochs which have high hearing stats

- monsters can and will target weak points. monsters target doors and and glass more frequently then plain old hulls.

- crawlers will eat other dead crawlers to regain health but this can be used to distract from the sub and run away.

- The amount of experience you gain for talents is based on the jobs you take into a mission

- I personally find the use of Coilguns and double Coilguns to be enough to carry through the game and also personally find railguns to be a huge drain on resources even if you use the canister shells

- it might be nice to cozy up to one or both of the side factions like church of husk or clowns. they both offer lovey side quests with differing but useful rewards (I personally like the church of husk reward better)

- try just looking at what you can craft every now and again. it never hurts to know.

- wearing certain outfits like the medic outfit gives items slots

- Blood (or saline), any opiate, and bandages cure most fatal injury's

- plasma cutters use oxygen tanks as fuel and can be used as a backup oxygen tank in a pinch

- if you are looking for a way to keep AI crew from dying of water pressure then look into PUC suits. they are a suit that does not consume oxygen unless in water and they come with a auto injector slot also comes with high resistances to some statuses

- AI crew are somewhat mid at manning guns but it is better to have someone man the guns then no one. you can kick AI crew off the guns by just clicking on the periscope they will return to guns once it is open again

- buy or make some personal sonar's

- ballast flora spawns when going through some green clouds, you know when you are going through these when the sonar picks up some small faint readings also you only have to destroy the core of the flora the rest will rot and fade. if ballast flora reaches a junction box it will drain very heavy power

OK I can think of NO more advice. wow this is a really long comment.

2:19 I remember spending hours trying to build a super fast sub to cheese this but my buddies would always just crash into things before we hit 50km/h, but then we got the achievement accidentally when I fired a nuclear railgun shell too close to the sub and we sank so fast the achievement popped lmao

so as a fellow Camel enjoyer heres something important to note, that thing floods so quick, and sinks like a motherfucker, so you'll need to be ontop of that.

If you ever get the chance buy Incendium Grenades, they're an extremely quick and easy way to deal with ballast flora, just make sure you dont accidentally throw one at your feet when the hatch closes.

Several subs have spots for additional guns you can purchase, its always a good idea to have as many guns as possible.

there are additional ammo types for some of the guns, Exploding and Piercing Coilgun ammo are both rather useful, but have their downsides.

Higher Tier subs dont just have a max depth bonus, but all have higher tier hull upgrades you can purchase which improve armor and max depth further.

try to keep yourself atleast neutral with all factions, as with minor factions they may attack on sight, while major factions will straight up deny you from their outposts, which could cause severe supply issues.

If i can think of any more tips ill edit this comment

Your narration style works really well for your "solo" videos but for these collabs I'd love to hear more of the crew's interactions.
