  I used Rockwool and it was much easier to work with than fiberglass.

  Spray foam is expensive and a pain in the ass, nevermind the off gassing. Fiberglass is cheap but 98% of people install it incorrectly by jamming it into cavities negating the R value.  Rockwool is a slam dunk.  Easy to cut, firm so no worries about compression, friction fit so no stapling, fireproof, WAY more hydrophobic than this guy makes it sound, pests hate it and it has the additional benefit of great soundproofing.  Well worth the couple extra bucks.

  I work in HVAC and I like Rockwool insulation the best!! Spray foam is difficult when making future changes. Fiberglass is annoying and itchy.

  Rockwool is by far the best over the others.  Not much more expensive, way easier to use and the end result is much better.  Not only does it insulate well but the sound dampening factor is a plus plus.

  I am a pest control technician and I see termite damage behind spray foam and the foam boards with a metal side. We can't inspect behind that stuff so when damage is found it's often pretty bad. I see it used in crawl spaces and foam often hides termites and other stuff.

  Ive learned through direct experience that without a ridge vent and soffit, you are going to have moisture no matter what insulation you use. Especially during the winter in more northern climes.<br><br>Havelock wool is the best insulation, in my opinion. Non toxic and does well with moisture.

  Another negative about closed cell Spray Foam on the underside of the roof is that it will seal the area to the point that you would never know there was a leak in the roof until it was rotted away and far more damage created as a result. In speaking with contractors for a project I have, They have warned against this, and some will not spray the underside of roof for this very reason.

  We did 1” foam board in the gambrel ceiling. We have a soffit with a ridge vent so the air can still flow through.
