  We were in a local coffee shop(breakfast place) in Yokoyama, Japan before a cruise. We were the only non-Japanese people in there. There were about 5 young women working there. None of the workers talked or chatted with each other the entire time we were there. They cleaned, waited on customers, did chores in the shop. Japanese people are amazing.

  Tipping is considered rude in many countries. Excellent service is always given.

  We lived in Japan for 8 years &amp; it made me want to be a better person. They are the kindest people you’ll ever meet!

  We no longer use e-Sims. When we moved to Canada we were able to get at a reasonable price an international plan that covers 64 countries as if we are home. Being retired we travel and cruise extensively so for us it is a great plan. When we spend 2 months in the winter in the Dominican Republic, travel Europe for a month, visit family and friends in the US, we are able to use both cell phones as if we are home. This winter when we cruise S America for 2 months, all but two countries are covered and so will our Japan cruise. For the odd country not covered, we do without for a few days or pay the daily rate.

  I lived in Japan for 3+ years and had an idea that tipping isn&apos;t acceptable. Heck, most countries outside the US it&apos;s not a thing.

  Japan uses the same electricity standard as the US. &nbsp;So US travelers do not need adapters, though Europeans and people from other regions will.

  I once ate breakfast, lunch and dinner + wine at a 7-11 in Tokyo. It was so cheap, Australian wine at the time was $3.00 a bottle in 2019. The fluffy egg salad sandwich at 7-11 was amazing! My favorite vending machine food was the hot corn soup, SO good!

  My first trip to Japan was via land tour and 2nd via cruise ship. Although I had the opportunity to visit several harder to reach destinations during my Japan cruise, I ended up wishing I had more time in port especially as the food on the NCL ship was westernize and I wanted more Japanese cuisine. I don&apos;t regret doing my cruise but will focus more on land travel to Japan in the future.<br><br>On my NCL cruise last spring to Japan, we did not have to surrender our passports but had to do a quick check at each port, which was very efficient. Also, all the Japanese ports were consecutive and once we left Japan for South Korea, we stayed in South Korea (Jeju and Seoul/disembarkation). I just did a Thai and Vietnamese cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore and that&apos;s when I had to surrender my passport. Unfortunately Celebrity failed to mentioned this very critical detail pre-cruise so it was very unnerving to have a Hong Kong port official take the passport and tell me that I&apos;ll get it back at the end of the cruise.

  We practically lived at Family Marr when we were in Kyoto. Coolest store ever. <br>Also remember if a vending machine has a blue border it’s cold stuff. If it’s red it’s hot stuff
