I travel the world. I’ve never brought more than a carry on. If you roll everything up tight you can fit 4-7 outfits (depending if it’s a cold or warm country). Underwear and socks are cheap, buy them where you travel and throw them out.

Having traveled to Geneva many times and stayed in countless hotels there, the size of Japan's hotels should be easy. I once splurged on a "small penthouse" room in a pricey Geneva hotel... it had a small bed AND a desk, but there wasn't room to pull the chair out from under the desk. Luckily, I was all about the view.

Cabin luggage 9kg suffice. Wear each shirt twice because hardly sweat in December. Laundromat in the hotel. Still didn’t wear 2 shirts and some briefs. Easy to move around with 20” trolley luggage when moved between cities. Wear 1 good sneakers, briefs, socks and 2 pants. A good winter jacket and 1 heatech long sleeve shirt are good. A pair of gloves and thermal pants are for harsh cold weather. You don’t need shorts and 5 to 6 long sleeves shirts are good for 2 weeks.
