I feel like rumination could come from making mistakes. And it can come from making mistakes because of the way we are taught to see those mistakes at a young age through a life filled with more criticisms. And learning to have to check for those mistakes. In the place where the creation of coping mechanisms can be formed.

So it feels like searching for an answer.......... Because you are. It starts with trying to figure something out, in yourself or the situation. That's a purpose, but still being stuck..... (Also struggle with interoception! Sometimes have delayed responses and task switching problems) You're trying to avoid the way you felt when you made mistakes in the past (which might be why when you're asked what's the worst that could happen now, it doesn't make sense). It feels like looking at every aspect of something, because you are, sometimes so you can detect the flaws/ keep yourself safe/ keep others safe etc and all the other things that can come from making mistakes. Because you were taught that mistakes are really bad and they don't feel good, they can feel vulnerable and lonely, cause difficulty. Similarly to a joke that everyone else got that you weren't in on. But it's also pretty similar to scripting.......(Future problem solving), but more of a physical/ situational script as opposed to conversational.

I don't think rumination is always purposeless either, but it is repetitive in that it's focused on a specific situation. Think of the stereotypical detective scenario, where they just know there's another clue in their evidence somewhere if only they could think it through/see it. They're still churning over it, looking at the same things over and over again. Going through the same statements and evidence, timeline etc. Then eureka!

And that is maybe why it also impacts decision making........... Because it's almost like a trauma that you can't avoid revisiting because everyone has to make many decisions every day. Which could also be why different levels of decisions feel the same. It's not the context of the decision that's as much a problem as the decision making process itself. Which would mean all of these things impact each other to form this.

If you don't make the decision....... Then you don't have to face the "impending mistake" you feel might be brewing on the other side. Rumination appears like a symptom without a cause? When was rumination given birth in an individuals timeline?

But also, what happened to sitting with feelings and figuring them out, acknowledging them, and accepting them, naming them. Or even fostering a more positive outlook towards making mistakes and learning to feel more comfortable with that. Understanding that mistakes are where growth and knowledge arise from. Mind tipping 👌 . Disrupting, sounds more like trying to ignore, distract or escape. A timer sounds better, creating a space to sit with it, but not let it take over.
