  I read about Genie's story a few years ago and it made me so angry. That abused child was treated like a lab rat and discarded by the system only to be placed in a situation where she was abused again. Just disgusting.

  This can&apos;t be an experiment about language learning, because she not only never spoke, but never made any sounds, was deprived of sunlight and movement, and also severely punished for making any sort of sound, and with the lack of a control group and there being a ton of other problems with her, you can&apos;t reliably say that &quot;If you don&apos;t learn a language before 12 yrs old you can never learn a language&quot;.<br><br><br>EDIT: Also, the scientists used the extremely outdated method of teaching her only the words and expecting her to somehow just work out how English works, while what she actually needed was hundreds of hours of English input, and given her age she needs even more than a baby does.

  Literally what the Deaf community has struggled with forever. Learn sign language for your deaf kids. Hearing aids won&apos;t give them language.

  Wow... So when she became inconvenient, they dumped her into abusive conditions again?<br><br>And from the sounds of it, after figuring out she was abused again, she was dumped again, and it is not clear what has happened to her since.

  You are glossing over the way the researchers were so enthralled with her as a test subject that her humanity was often overlooked completely. She needed a nurturing environment, but she was kept in labs performing tests.

  The abused child’s real name is Susan Wiley. For several decades, all published material about her called her Genie to preserve her privacy; neither her first nor her last name were given. Back then, the only way to find her actual name was to read the stories of her rescue in the LA Times from early November, 1970.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckM4PUnvU-4&amp;t=525">8:45</a> in my own perspective i feel like this research is considered a fail, because not only was that girl emotionally and physically abused, she did not feel safe learning. that&apos;s why she resorted to silence, if she was reborn again and did not speak a language from the same age yet had a friendly enviroment of people who do not speak a language like her. i feel like the experiment to what happens when a child doesn&apos;t learn a language is simple. they won&apos;t know how to describe things.
