Ok the cabinetry looking piece of wood. On a mid-80s 308/328 that’s a factory piece, not leftover cabinet wood.<br>Lift the rear trunk carpet and a lot of these cars have a flat wooden floor board under there. It’s a lightweight sandwich, two thin wood/veneer skins with spacer blocks in the middle so there’s an air gap. Earlier ones can look like mahogany veneer, later ones look cheaper.<br>It’s a heat shield/spacer. The engine and cats sit right under that luggage area, so the board keeps the trunk floor from getting as hot and gives the carpet a flat surface. More common on US-spec cars because of the extra cat heat.<br>So if it looks like a finished furniture-style panel sitting under the carpet, that’s original.

As someone who just resurrected his own car in a similar condition, there is a fair amount of guilt and embarrassment that comes along with asking for help with something like this. Good on Larry for always being so compassionate and never judgmental!

It always amazes me when I hear these stories of people who want to 'save' their cars from mileage or wait until they are retired to fulfil a bucket list and drop dead!!!! Say yes to adventure, drive your dream cars, live you're dreams because you're a long time dead!
