What's crazy is that Honey Badgers go out of their way to get honey from the same bees while ignoring thousands of bee stings in the process.

I wouldn't have said elephants were famous for having thick skin.

Off the top of my head, I know elephants for having excellent memories, large ears, tusks, trunks, being huge, grey and afraid of mice.

Thick skin is not one of them.

That's why I find Bees, wasps, hornets, etc terrifying. They are incredibly intelligent when attacking, especially the most aggressive ones like killer bees. They are known to specifically go for your eyes, nostrils, mouth, and sensitive areas, because they know those spots affect you the most. So just imagine being something like an elephant and a bunch of bees crawling up your trunk stinging you from the inside and your eyes getting stung repeatedly, it's actual torment.

It’s the same reason bees sting your armpits

The acoustic experiment where they played fake bee sounds from an empty speaker and the whole herd instantly evacuated shows how deeply encoded this survival instinct is. They don't even wait for the pheromones!

Shot in the dark, is it because they don't like being stung?
