I bought a high end Innova 20 years ago because it included free updates for life.
Bought the cable and adaptors to do the updates.
After checking for 3 years and never seeing and update I called them.
They told me mine was to to old to get updates!
Never bought another Innova product.

Considering how much labor costs are nowadays, having a higher-end scanner can easily pay for itself when a moderate or major code is detected; you'll be armed with knowledge ahead of time about what the possible causes are before taking your wheels to a shop, potentially saving you from being ripped off.

Imagine seeing a test airbags option with warning signs and you press it out of curiosity and all the airbags deploy 😂 that would be hilarious.

Wish you had included a review of the popular BlueDriver OBD2 scanner. Otherwise, appreciate this round up, thanks!

Picked up the Kingbolen Ediag Elite during the Prime Deals for $85 with free lifetime updates. It's been working great on my Toyota, and the bidirectional tests are surprisingly useful for the price.

I bought the 99 innova last year cause of many car issues. Cleared them and got the stuff fixed. Now I wish I bought a better one cause I am doing modifications and actually being able to interact is super nice

That Autel MK808S-TS looks and acts exactly like my Otofix D1 Lite. Indeed, Autel makes the Otofix line of scanners.

If you do a lot of car work, I think you can make an argument for owning multiple scanners that roughly line up with the 3 you reviewed here. Like you, I like to keep a cheap, simple one in the glovebox in case I need something on the road. I also like to have something simple and mid-range, like the Innova, as my go-to scanner. And there have been a few times when I needed to have access to the advanced features of a high-end scanner like the Autel. I don't often need it, but in some tricky cases, all the advanced visibility really helped me pin down the root cause of the problem I needed to fix.
