With the Transformers franchise currently on its “Apology Tour,” this strange and tragic timing makes the anniversary feel even more emotional. Share your thoughts and respects in the comments.

I was 11 when Optimus Prime died the first time. 40 years of carrying that death. I lost my hero a second time this week.

Literally the day before he died I was having a conversation with a friend on discord where I was talking about Peter Cullen, how impactful his performance as Optimus Prime was, and how long he had been doing it. Then the very next day I had to DM her and tell her the bad news

words cannot explain how badly this has affected me. that was the first time i've ever cried over a celebrities death. i dont know what to do. my dad graciously booked me and my best friend tickets to see the movie on the 17th. so far it looks like we're gonna have the whole cinema to ourselves. i just want to hear his voice on the big screen one last time. it's so weird waking up each day, going online, and just watching transformers media and thinking "peter cullen's gone". it just won't click with me. all optimus' deaths just hit different now. RIP Peter Cullen. til all are ome.

No apologies are needed. Leave the film as it is.

I'm not concerned about what Hasbro/Paramount plan to do with Optimus right now. Right now my concern is just celebrating the life and mourning the loss of this absolute legend. Although I unfortunately never got to meet him, I was gifted something with his autograph on it. Something I will treasure for the rest of my days. Rest well, Peter. ❤️💙

As a Peter Cullen fan, and obviously a Transformers fan, I feel the need to go see the movie in theaters even more now

As hard as it was seeing Prime die onscreen 40 years ago, its going to be even harder this time around. 😢

Optimus Prime was my dad when I was a baby in the 80s. How do you get past the pain..

Optimus was the voice of a hero. One that didn't want to fight, but would defend. He stood up to what was right and good in the world. He didn't push people towards views or a narrative. He did the right thing because that is what good leadership does.

We should all strive to be a better person.
