Why doesn't Bruce Wayne just give away his money instead of fighting crime as a vigilante?

Could billions in philanthropy actually fix Gotham and does Batman ultimately do more harm than good?

Or would Gotham's corruption simply swallow the money until someone dealt with Falcone, the mob, corrupt officials, crooked cops, and everyone else controlling the system?

Pouring money into a corrupt system is like pouring water into a leaky bucket. It may look like it helps but it doesn't actually solve the problem.

You can bring an addict to rehab, you can even force them to get clean, but you can't force them to stay clean once they are released.

Not all crimes are due to proverty. There are multiple types of crime and prepetrators. Batman character is him tackling and dealing with all of those crimes. He becomes a detective to deal with corruption and organized crime. He set up charity to help deperate criminals. He utilized fear to discourage and threaten opportunist criminals. He also tries to no only stop the mentally ill but to get them help as well. A good batman writer balance and accounts for all of these things.

Fun fact: in Dehli India, there was a cobra infestation so the british empire (which controled India) offere money to the locals as a reward for killing and bringing cobras' heads. At first it looked it was working to find out the locals were secretly growing cobras just to get more money, so the british shut down the whole program resulting in all the farmed cobras to be tossed back into the streets thus the cobra infestation got way worst.
Just something to think about

Remember kids, people will set you unachievable standards and then get upset when you fail to reach them. Ignore those people and do what you can

He literally donates to a bunch of charities helping the poor. It’s just that Gotham is that bad

I feel like people don’t really get what a problem corruption could be and how hard it is to combat. By definition corruption isn’t the lack of resources but the abuse of them. You can’t pour money into a black hole.

Batman has always been a philanthropist, in fact that’s also one of the earliest things established about his parents as well. But from the 70s on one of the most interesting things established about Batman in my opinion is that he’s willing to give but understands the system is flawed and he needs to go outside to accomplish his goals.

I really think the “Batman should give his money away” take is bad because number one he does and number two he’s actually one of the few characters where systematic corruption is his established motivations and I think it’s one of the most interesting things about him.

I had a completely original character idea: "Brokeman"

Brokeman used to be a multimillionaire business owner by day and vigilante crime fighter by night. But he got swayed by liberal arguments and gave away all his money, sold his mansion and all his gadgets to give it away to the poor.

Unfortunately, most of the money got eaten up by Non-Profit NGOs that were trusted to distribute it, a few crime bosses embezzled a bunch of it, and a lot of the gadget technology was immediately copied by super villains and used for crime.

Brokeman lives under a bridge in dirty clothes. He is mentally broken from seeing nothing change for the better and actually seeing things get worse.

Now Brokeman needs to fight corruption with no money or political influence. He needs to take on crime bosses without a safe home base to analyze crime patterns and bandage up his wounds, and he needs to take on super villains using his own gadgets with no gadgets of his own.
