Once a Spencer was empty, it took forever to reload. Its tubular magazine needed to be pulled out of the stock and loaded one at a time. Little Big Horn would have had dead soldiers with their magazine tubes out. The increased rate of fire could have had men out of ammo

A Winchester with a side gate for re loading might have made a difference allowing the men to feed and fire. The Spencer and Henry would have been out of the fight as soon as the magazine ran dry
