It is a better idea to prep this for dinner and then eat the left overs as breakfast. That's what our grandparents were doing.

There's one thing he didn't say: most of this isn't made right before eating. The rice is usually reheated left overs from the previous night, the soup was made in a large batch in advance, the "salad" was a side dish from a previous meal, and maybe only the protein would be cooked that day.

I switched to Japanese breakfasts when my children were in middle school. Their lunch break was crazy late at 12:45 pm, and their school day began at 7:45 am. They’d have breakfast at 6:30, but even with snack breaks, they’d be hangry and distracted by noon. So after some research and talking to friends, I started Japanese breakfasts on a trial. We’d have simply cooked fish, rice, soup, and lacto pickled vegetables. It kept them full and they liked it a lot, especially salted salmon. I wasn’t thrilled about coming home from work to a sink full of dirty dishes every night, but eventually I got into a rhythm and got it down to a minor mess. We still had oatmeal and farina on some days, but it was mostly fish and grilled tofu. We could never get used to natto, though.

I frequently do a "one dish" version of this with precooked rice/legume mix and canned tuna or sardines with pickled vegetables in miso broth.

A Japanese grandma, Kinoe grandma of youtube inspired me to eat like that. She cooks her meals simply and quickly. When I eat like this, I feel full after every meal. Now I understand why restaurants in Japan serve this combination.

When I was in high school I had to take a train at 6am. 15 min bicycle to get to the station required me to have breakfast at 5am. My mom worked full time but always prepared full Japanese breakfast, that kept me till lunch.

Why haven't I been using my fish grill drawer for breakfast? So simple and easy!

For everyone saying "this isnt simple" or it takes too much time, you all must never cook. Like this is all basic and quick. Most of this can be cooking at the same time. It would probably take all of 20 mins. And waking up 20 minutes earlier for a nutritious breakfast before work is worth it.

I'd love a recipe for this, especially if this can be adapted to meal-prep, i.e. just getting some of the stuff ready the day/night so it's ready to go in the morning with minimal prep.
