Im 69. Ive been cooking Japanese style food every night for about 9 or so months, after I wanted to lose menopausal belly fat, try and correct some health problems to help me live longer.

Using the Japanese concepts of using small dishes, always miso, protein, rice and a side, using chopsticks (slowed down my eating), incorporating fermented foods daily, eating until 80% full only, not only did I lose the belly fat, but my digestive problems disappeared, my heartburn is a thing of the past, my blood work came back perfect. Bonus...I always feel satisfied, never snack, and look forward to my Japanese meal every night.

So yes, it can be life changing! For sure.

Like he said - it’s not the food, it’s the structure. He showed an example of the structure using American food. You could use any cuisine. 😉

It is funny because we used to do a similar thing here in the Netherlands. Every meal used to be boiled potatoes, vegetables, and a protein if it was in the budget. I personally don't like boiled potatoes (I know, scandalous as a Dutchy), but this video helped me remember that eating simple but good quality food is a totally valid dinner option that clearly a lot of people all over the world have figured out! Thank you so much for sharing!

As someone with a life of disorder eating, simplicity was the key to reducing my cognitive load (decision fatigue) around food and disorder eating.

I eat one meal a day at the end the day and that one meal is typically some kind of deconstructed bowl of short grain rice, topped with protein, vegetables, legumes and then condiment of choice. It can be a some kind of sushi bowl, bimbimbap bowl, taco bowl, hambuger bowl, etc.

I eat a mediterranean-japanese diet for my liver disease. I use the one soup, 3 sides set up, but one side is a mini microgreen "fresh pickled" salad and another a small greek yogurt with berries. The actual cooked food is similar to what you say. Bulgur (I tolerate it better than rice), a veggie miso soup with bone broth, and a protein dish. By eating several small dIshes I can actually get enough food. I cannot face large plates of food.

I was born and raised in southern California so of course raised on mostly a Western diet. I am 62 years old now. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis and CIDP about seven years ago. I was about 40 pounds 50 pounds overweight. I was also having some hypertension, not high, but I had hypertension. Ever since I switched over to a traditional Japanese meal for breakfast, it has been the best thing for my gastroparesis, my weight, and just overall feeling good body wise and healthy wise. And I have dropped another 5 pounds. I did have a little room to lose, but I don’t wanna lose anymore now cause I’m getting a little thin. But changing made complete 180 on my gastroparesis on a traditional Japanese diet. Thank you for these videos.!

Ichiju sansai is superior.
- one loaded carb
- one protein
- one loaded soup
- two easy sides that are easy to keep for 2-3 days

Wild! I have already basically been doing this but not soup, just a veg. The concept of being able to really see how many carbs and protein I'm eating really resonates. Breakfast is millet porridge and eggs, lunch is carrots, rice and chicken and dinner is sweet potatoes, butter nut squash and turkey meatloaf for example. I can only digest these things and a small number of other things.

My suggestion is to prepare a couple jars of marinated food like kimchi and sweet sour cucumber slices. I always eat a bit of these with my dinner (sprouted steam rice, a protein , and a vegetable).

Several beautiful small plates on a nice placemat makes dinner a ritual to wind down a day before resting mind and body.
