  Great coverage on a car that has eluded me for 30 years. I came close to buying a Marti report documented 71 Ford Custom 500 with the 429 SCJ engine. It was a police package but had the more powerful engine than the 429 police interceptor engine. The car was owned by a retired GM executive who had a collection of police package cars from the 60’s and 70’s. The Marti Report showed it was 1 of 6 built for the FBI. If it wasn’t documented by Marti I wouldn’t have believed it but it was the real deal with the number matching engine and the correct coded heads. I communicated with the gentleman for several months but another collector outbid my best offer by $6000.00. He was very well off older gentleman who had a lot more money to spend than I could so he bought it. It was green with a green interior. Looking back I wish I had the money to buy it but I felt this guy would have paid whatever it took to own the car. Many people don’t believe the story but back then the big three would accommodate the government. CHP asked Chrysler to put the 440 in the small Coronet in 1975  because the full size Monacos and Fury was not fast enough to catch speeders so in 76 Dodge Coronets police pursuits were available with the 440 only in CA and 1440 were built. Then in 77 the smaller Coronet was renamed Monaco/Plymouth Fury and the 440 was available in all 50 states. The full size Monaco from 76 was named the Royal Monaco and Plymouth were renamed the Gran Fury. I was lucky enough to buy one of the CHP 440 powered 76 Coronets police pursuit that was rust free and with the original 440 about 12 years ago. I have only seen two of these Coronets. The guy from Graveyard Cars bought the one that was for sale. The other one is currently owned by a shop called Chase Motors I believe. They may not be worth much but I love the stories behind them. Again, great video.

  This is still one of my favorite full-size Fords; I sure dig the lizard-like front fascia, especially since it has so many different front bumpers.

  AMT makes a 1970 Ford Galaxie model kit in 1/25 scale. It's the closest model kit I know of. It was recently released under the James Bond license as well as a taxi version.
