It feels a lot like the answer is "it depends". Sometimes society would accommodate your differences (particularly if you were considered either "strange but harmless" or clearly gifted in some way), sometimes if your neurodivergence bothered the people around you you'd be regularly severely beaten (even by your own family) in ineffectual attempts to make you stop. The way society treats disability and neurodivergence is heavily affected by how uncomfortable it makes the people around you, and we still see that today.

Also a lot of the monk lifestyle is very accommodating to autism traits. <br><br>The beads for stimming, the rigid structure and routine, a specific topic being the center of your social life (and if your special interest is religion, that's the jackpot right there)

there are several Catholic saints I suspect had the 'tism, and as an autistic person myself it's so easy to imagine an autistic five-year-old encountering an enormous cathedral with all the stained glass and such and going "oh, I need to take this REALLY seriously"

You know, maybe medieval people had a mindset of "the world is mysterious, god's will is mysterious, but we're all made by god," which made way for these instances of open-mindedness and acceptance of the neurodivergent.
