The worst decision Westbrook ever made was leaving the Wizards for the Lakers. Beyond the disaster of what happened in LA, if he had stayed with the Wizards he would have been the number 1 guy with Beal, Deni, Rui and Gafford. They wouldn't have won a championship, but they would have been a playoff team and his legacy would have been better off.

Russ was a superstar who played with the desperation and intensity of a guy on a 2-way deal

Dude was a machine, if he could have shot a little higher percentage he would sky rocket up the list.

The risk of having a very long career is that your greatest moments might be overshadowed by your late career performance.. and it's especially true if you never cement it with a ring (or better, rings) and if you go to certain franchises who expect championship pedigree. The NBA is a league very much in the vein of 'what have you done for me lately?' and this is a sentiment held by both fans and franchises. Careers can turn from MVP to washed in as little as a single season. If your game is predicated on supreme physical ability and you cannot adapt a more savvy game plan for when that physicality ends, you can end up like RW where you don't get your flowers until you hang up the trainers. Even when you do, it may feel fake and bittersweet because the same people calling you westbrick will now be lamenting and celebrating your career.

Way too low on Steve Nash, but other than that I think this was a pretty accurate summary of Russ’s career

If you look up the stats, Harden and Westbrook couldn't be more comparable
Both shot just under 44% from the field for their career. Both won the MVP. Harden led the league in scoring 3X, with 2 assist titles. Westbrook led the league in scoring twice and had 3 assist titles. Russell was better on defense.
Both were a train wreck in the playoffs. I would rather have Russell's higher effort over Hardens' higher skill:body-blue-raised-arms:

The problem is, Russ never won a playoff series as the number 1 option. Ever. That hurts him all-time for sure

One of the All Time greats! Russ was amazing. Should be honored as such. What Russ needed was his own team with shooters and a great big. He never got that dynamic or he wins a title. Like give Russ Klay, Iggy, Love, Bogut he wins title.

HE RESPECTED THE GAME. That's enough for me. All the other things he did is just a bonus. 💪👏

He was a literal MACHINE!! The effort and energy was undeniable, but let’s not let it underestimate the ability. Russ at his peak before he lost his jump shot and his hands was an absolute dynamo. The only weakness in his game was his 3 ball and how he’d get erratic with his decision making at times. He was truly a special and dominant figure and in my opinion if he wasn’t his worst enemy, had all the tools to have been the 2nd greatest point guard of all time…but because of his stubbornness I have him 9th…

1. Magic Johnson
2. Steph Curry
—
3. Isiah Thomas
4. Chris Paul
5. Jason Kidd
6. Steve Nash
7. John Stockton
8. SGA
9. Russell Westbrook
10. Damian Lillard
